Make no mistake about it: Donald Trumps trip to Mexico was a resounding success.
After weeks of scrutiny over his credentials for higher office, his moral standing even his sanity Trump needed to restore some sense of legitimacy and strength to his flailing campaign. What better way to do so than to stand, statesman-like, next to the president of Mexico? Trump played the role to perfection. Subdued and even solemn, he owned the proceedings. Trump chose when and how he wanted to visit Mexico, a country he has insulted and maligned for more than a year. He established the meetings agenda, laying out a five-point plan for the bilateral relationship in a potential Trump presidency. Trump even chose who got to ask questions during the brief news conference that followed the usual statements, deftly placing himself on equal footing with Peña Nieto. A master of optics, Trump used the setting to his advantage, calling Peña Nieto a friend and conveniently shaking his hand for front-page-ready photos. He avoided anything resembling an apology and, albeit in more careful terms than before, stood by the construction of a border barrier.
Some slammed Trump for not demanding Peña Nieto pay for the infamous wall, but such criticism misses the point. Trumps goal in Mexico was not confrontation. In fact, it was the exact opposite: the international debut of diplomatic Trump, a man who dutifully praises his host, stresses common ground over conflict. Trumps take on a real presidential candidate came in the unlikeliest stage imaginable: Los Pinos, the Mexican presidents official residence. Just a few hours later, in Phoenix, Trump would put his new perceived legitimacy to immediate use, giving a ferocious speech on immigration policy

The poor WP. They just can't get over themselves.
They've had this guy wrong since day one.
You don't get to Trump's station in life without having more skills than the Washington Post's staff does.
I love the feeling of having a Presidential candidate who I know is smarter than I am and surprises me with brilliant strokes, like Trump, rather than frustrating me with obvious idiocy.
I don’t recall the last time I felt like this. I suppose 1980, and I wasn’t a voter then.
Every other campaign since then I felt like our candidate was an idiot. And they always were (since 1988 I mean). Yes GWB won...but man...he made me nervous every time he spoke, b/c you just felt like he didn’t have much going on upstairs and that he could get in over his head very easily. Not saying that was the case, just saying that is how I felt.
But with Trump, it’s completely different. Day in and out, he amazes me with his tactics and his brilliance.
Reading the comments by the WaPo readers is hugely informative of their commitment to being stoned and stupid. Most are just intellectually clueless frauds.
I have heard (I don't know for sure) that Trump has been known to carry a grudge. If he wins this thing especially if it's big there will be HELL to pay for those who were against him. Especially GOPE insiders!
“giving a ferocious speech on immigration policy”
Ferocious? No bias there! LOL! The ComPost meets expectations.
spot on
True, Trump has mopped the floor from day one and i truly believe if Trump is elected he will pay America back for all of the riches it has given him plus interest, the riches which he legally gained )
When i see the jamed packed crowds to hear his speeches it is hard to believe he could lose but is it to good to be true?
Yes Trump is a rich man and he went by the rules given by the U.S government to get that way, now he is ready to give it back to the people but will they show their wisdom by voting for him or will they stick to the socialist hog trough they have gotten used to?.
I am convinced Trump is the real thing but i am losing my confidence in the American people and have been for years.
Seriously entertaining last night to watch CNN’s pundits scramble to spin both the visit and the later rally. They seemed to feel that Trump’s double down on a strong immigration policy after the past several week’s speculation on him softening his immigration stance caught them with their flies open. Not once did they attempt to suss why Trump gave a speech like Dick Butkus on steroids after all the criticism from his own party about his hard line on immigration. Zero inquiry on what may have transpired during the face time with Mexico’s President that might have given Trump the green light to go into earthquake mode. Nor did they get the possibility that Trump has some inside data on Hillary’s potential prosecution on the emails or is smelling blood due to the rate of defection from Dem ranks. I just ordered another pallet load of popcorn.
Ya mind if use that CD? It sounds like a great line for a Country & Western Song!
Trump showed his amazing talent to take risks and win. Hillary is incapable of knowing how to take risks with the best probability.
Im back to believing that Trump has a plan for victory. He knows what he is doing.

Trump is very shrewd and knows and understands risk. He is now setting up to go for the kill.
