A cousin of NBA basketball star Dwyane Wade was shot and killed by a pair of serial offenders in Chicago on Friday because the two thugs didn’t like it when a taxi driver dared to make eye contact with them.
A pair of brothers released from jail on parole have been charged with fatally shooting Nykea Aldridge, cousin of NBA star Dwyane Wade, in Chicago.
Darwin Sorells, 26, and 22-year-old brother Derren, who are both documented gang members, were charged with first-degree murder Sunday over the death of Aldridge, 32, a mother-of-four.
Both are repeat gun offenders, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson confirmed, and both were out on parole at the time of the killing.
Speaking about Darwin, Johnson said he is a six-time weapon offender who was jailed in 2013 for six years for another gun crime but released on parole in February.

Just wondering here - so, how many times do you have to be convicted of gun offenses in Chicago in order to get into serious trouble. Sounds like a catch and release program.

Eye contact is right! I was driving in heavy traffic when I looked at a black teen in the car next to me. He must not have liked the way I looked at him because he went kind of nuts. He was waving his arms around and yelling something. I gave him a big happy smile and was able to get away from him. He must have been high on something.

That is part of our home defense protocol. We secure ourselves behind a locked door; the wife calls 9/11 and says, "We are having a home invasion. We are in fear for our lives"; she stays on the phone while laying on the floor and I point the 12guage at the door.
Question: Good or bad idea to yell out to the intruders that the police are on the way? Yes, it let's them know where you are, but if just burglars, they may leave. Also, I know better than to go hunting around the house in the dark when awakened by intruders. They have the advantage of dealing with the dark - I just woke up or have been watching TV with lights on.

Like many, we can't just leave due to job and family obligations. Although, since my Wife's Father probably won't make it to year end, I'm going to ask her to resign and live on our savings.

I get it, shoot to kill. Surely, you're aware of the damage big game load can do? BTW, I know how to shoot from the hip, under the arm, and in the shoulder. I live in the suburbs where houses are just a feet from each other. That and criminal/civil suits is why I have game load in the first 2 rounds.

Just checked them out. Didn't know they existed. It's a good compromise until we get out of Commifornia. I like all the rails (light/laser)and folding stock. The work around the "odious" 10 round mag is to have plenty loaded and handy.
Again, a rifle is only if the BLM's move on our suburbs. I won't wait for them to be inside and neither will my neighbors. Doubt the zombies would be unarmed and think molotov cocktails. They light the fuse, we light them up. Legalities be damned at that point. However, we've agreed that we're not going to kill anyone for throwing rocks.

I've been told by 2 LEO's and 2 range experts to call 9/11 and say "experiencing a home invasion...we are in fear for our lives". Those words even work in Commifornia. And to stay on the line...
I think our home invasion protocol is sound. We've even practiced on both storys of the house and in different rooms, including crawling along the living/family room floor to a lockable room and whispering to 9/11 as the Wife hides her best and I point the 870 at the door.
I was also told that if hearing the intruders just outside the door it usually helps to let them know the police are on the way and have a shotgun pointing at them. Of course that depends on how determined the intruders are and can piss them off and fire at the door. Of course, we would be prone and off axis to where he/they most likely shoot. What do you think?
