Heck, I wouldn't even go to see a movie like this about a President & First Lady that I LIKED!
A gunfight is likely to erupt in the gun free zones. The people that are attracted to this movie are likely to be of the persuasion that are more likely to commit gun and assault crimes.
I don’t understand. “All Critics” on Rotten Tomatoes give it a 93% rating.
“A gentle, rose-tinted piece of political nostalgia-one that glances at the divisions in American society, but still casts a optimistic view toward whatever’s next.”
“If you can set politics aside for 80 delightful minutes, even the staunchest Republicans will swoon over “Southside with You.”
And Roger Ebert gives it his top rating:
“This down-to-earth approach works surprisingly well because Southside with You never loses sight of the primary tenet of a great romantic comedy: All you need is two people whom the audience wants to see get togetherthen you put them together...
...Southside with You is at once a love song to the city of Chicago and its denizens, an unmistakably Black romance and a gentle, universal comedy. It is unapologetic about all three of these elements, and interweaves them in such a subtle fashion that they become more pronounced only upon later reflection...
... The two manage to create a beautiful tribute to enduring love in just under 90 minutes, making Southside with You an irresistibly romantic and rousing success...”

And NBC News says:
” When writing the film, Tanne tuned out of political news and debates and laser-beam focused on the personal story of the Obamas in the hopes of conveying a relationship which could inspire others.
The result: a genuinely romantic film which provides subtle insights into the personas of two figures who are too often labeled unknowable. “

Surely these reviewers aren’t letting their reviews be shaped by their politics? Can they?

It had only a $1.5m budget, comparable to a typical Lifetime channel made for TV movie. It also opened in a modest 813 theaters.
Would have worked better with Greek columns.
When Oedipus met Electra.
I saw this reviewed on Rotten Tomatoes. The media critics were in the 90% range positive. The audience reviews were in the 50% range. It looks like a movie made for Lifetime tv in the ads.
DOA at the boxoffice, yet 93% approval from the progressive critics at Rotten Tomatoes...guess the paying customers are just plain stupid.
How did this compare to Hillary’s America by Denesh? What did it draw the first weekend.
It was only released in 800 theaters and there’s no production budget information available, so it’s hard to know how badly (if at all) it flopped. Too bad.
Just waiting for Maureen Dowd to throw her two cents in.
She’ll probably blame the failure of this movie on people like Donald Trump and Sarah Palin.
In Chicago people were dying to get in to it according to the web site http://heyjackass.com/ Click on the link for the up today STATS from Chicago.
Who in the world bankrolled this soggy saga? The offending party ought to be taxed 100% because they obviously have too much money.
‘America is racisiss’ excuse in 3,2,1....
I really thought this was going to be a TV movie, I can’t imagine why anyone thought this would work as a theatrical release.
KRAMER: Checking out the staff picks, Miss Benes?
ELAINE: Oh. Ha-ha. Hey. Yeah, yeah. This Vincent guy, he is the best. He and I have the exact same taste in movies.
KRAMER: Oh, Vincent is an art-house goon. I stick to the Gene rack.
ELAINE: Gene? Oh, its so stupid and mainstream.
KRAMER: Ive seen all these, so I went with a Kramer pick.
ELAINE: The Other Side Of Darkness. Huh, I never heard of that one.
KRAMER: Yeah, went straight to video.
KRAMER: That makes me the premiere.
When they first announced Borrack had won the first election...i was in a Greyhound bus station that was probably 80% black. You would think mostly Borrack supporters? There were ONLY 2 black guys watching the CNN coverage...that was it! No one else even bothered to watch.
There is nothing to do in a bus station! And only two black guys watching as the first black President won the election?
Anyhow, I suspect most blacks are not in love with him, like the media likes to pretend, but mostly care about maintaining the status quo.
Everyone knows the South Side of Chicago is a place filled with thug and pestilence. Both light foot and lard butt are part of that culture of corruption. Why would anyone in his or her right mind go to see a fairy tale set in those slums?
Cool! I’m finally in the IN crowd.
Can’t imagine why it’s not on our small town Texas theather’s “coming soon” list.
