This has nothing to do with "leftism" at all.

Sports like NASCAR and the NFL are becoming politically correct because they no longer cater to football fans. They are selling themselves to each and every American consumer, so by definition they have to become as bland, brand-less and pointless as anything else that's supposed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Once a sport (or any other mass-marketed product or service) reaches this point, its top priorities are to: (1) adopt any stupid political/cultural cause that has captured the imagination of the American public, and (2) avoid offending people if they are "mainstream" or "protected" classes.
