San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick says he refused to stand during the national anthem Friday due to his views on the country's treatment of racial minorities.
"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL Media after Friday's game. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

Raised badly halfling
Last time I thus stood and saluted the flag at a sports event, I took note of the fact that the first verse of the National Anthem both begins and ends with a question.
“Good questions” I thought.
The National Anthem as sung does not even promote such presumptuous attitudes — only the desire that the Flag should still wave over a territory that is “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” And if it is the land of the enslaved and the home of the cowardly, then we need to do what we can about it. But we certainly shouldn’t be lying that the flag does not call for these ideals.
The $61 million guaranteed is kind of bogus. It’s guaranteed only if he’s injured. He’s on their roster, so he’ll make a big salary this year. But if he’s cut before next season he gets no more.

“I think Colin Kaepernick just ended his football career. Now he’s free to go fight racism and oppression.”
If Colin had a QB Rating of 108 and had won three Super Bowls, he could burn the flag during the Super Bowl Halftime show and still have a job. I
Yes.
Stopped watching about 35 years ago.
Isn’t it interesting how many of the most strident people of color on racial political issues are mixed race? Many people think it’s caught up in their identity issues and feel they have to overcompensate.
It was just a couple of years ago that I remember reading an article that said quarterbacks like Brady and Manning are part of the past and that quarterbacks like Kapernaek are redefining the QB position and represent the future. LOL.
Cut him
I think it’s actually right to say that black people in America are oppressed, but not by the things that people like BLM are claiming are doing so.
Rather, it is by unseen spirits of wickedness. These people shown here may have gone to a grave on earth, but even that is not as bad as being led to hell itself.
These unseen spirits of wickedness will gin up distracting fears of things that are relatively minor hazards, while setting up major hazards themselves. If every single allegation of a police shooting being unjust actually were so, this would still be less than the odds of being struck by lightning, and be far far less than the odds of being attacked by a non-police criminal of their own color.
Did you go to Anoka-Hennepin Ind School District 11? I ask because I can’t understand what you are trying to say. Your spelling and grammar structure suck.
btw I went to District 11.
Yes. This country is so racist. Let’s see how many Africans (if there is such a thing) would come to the US in a heartbeat if offered the chance. Let’s see how many Blacks in this country, if offered the chance would move to Africa.
Ali, after returning from the Rumble in the Jungle, said, “Boy, am I glad my Gran Daddy got on that boat.”
You can tell with all the tattoos :-) ?
Not really - most 49er fans are much more conservative than the area in which they live. I think Kaep finally punched his ticket out of town with this move. Blaine Gabbert must be winning the contest for the starting job.
I hear you - I moved to Arizona years ago but have been hesitant to switch loyalty over to the Cardinals. Looks like this is the year. :)
Arrested development...
He almost single-handedly got the team back into a game they never should have fallen so far behind in and nearly won a Super Bowl, then got the 49ers within inches in the NFC Championship the next year. The talent is there. Since then, though, it has all come apart.
