Let’s consider this possibility. Let’s say Hillary pulls out of the debates. Trump then debates with the Libertarian and Green Party candidates?

Don’t know if that’s good or bad, but if PIAPS makes herself scarce, it might be good politics for Trump to bolster the Libertarian and Green Party candidates. Their voting base would not go for Trump in any event, but might vote for PIAPS. Make it easy for PIAPS supporters to either stay home or vote 3rd party, locking in the Trump win.

Hillary could declare she won't debate Trump because he's a racist and a bigot, and the mainstream media will applaud her for doing so. No debates and minimal political fallout.

In 1972, Nixon not only refused to debate McGovern, but would not even mention him by name during the campaign. Of course he had the advantage of being the incumbent, and it had not yet become a given that debates will take place.
