Heroin laced with elephant tranquilizer hits the streets

The American heroin epidemic has become more dangerous, as reports of heroin laced with carfentanil are being reported throughout the country.

Carfentanil is the most potent opioid used commercially, 10,000 times stronger than morphine. It is a version or analogue of fentanyl, the painkiller that most recently made headlines with its role in the death of pop star Prince.

My son had a bright future. Making over $50,000 a year when he was in his mid 20’s being a supervisor at a major manufacturing company. New car, money in his pocket. vacations. Adorable daughter born in 2010. Then a car accident left him with a shattered shoulder and in terrible pain. I don’t know when he became an addict. I’m assuming after the doctors pumped him up with narcotics and then, as they do, abruptly cut him off. Eventually he lost his job. Resorted to donating plasma and retail theft to support his habit. His insecure wife decided to join him, rather than put her child first. In early 2015 I reported them to CPS and my granddaughter was taken away. I have not spoken to him since. I love my son but I cannot trust him. He is a shell of his former self. I expect a knock on the door or a phone call telling me he is dead or in jail.

Professionals will tell you, this epidemic is like no other. The last 5 years have seen a dramatic increase in deaths and overdoses. Heroin is cheap and plentiful. Yet, there are no public service announcements or school programs warning of the dangers or addictive nature of this drug. As I stated previously, this is being marketed to mostly white males. Many overdoses are kids from upper middle class backgrounds. Is our government profiting from it? Why else would it be ignored?

Pain management for back problems can be an awful ordeal, my sympathy.

I live in an affluent neighborhood. Worked hard to get here. I was on s school advisory board. They wanted to bring in troubled kids from the ghettos (kids tossed out of the ghetto schools). Note: They were $35K per student they took in. BIG MONEY. I replied in a meeting that I worked to hard to afford to be able to leave the ghetto and would not support bring the troubles I worked so hard to get away from into our system. Will I was told I didn't belong on this advisory board.

Our high school is now known as HERION HIGH.

Allow me to take on the role of mediator here. Submarinerswife is being critical of users in the present tense. Over the years I have read posts by Freepers who admitted that at one time they were frequent users of illegal narcotics, but they cleaned up. And IMHO, they are good contributors to FreeRepublic.

When I was young they sold Ketamine in farm supply stores.

I remember when LSD was legal as well...they gave it away at the local headshop/waterbed store. It was on sugar cubes at the front counter.

A friend and I grabbed a handful of cubes one day and fed them to the local pigeons...the crazy stuff kids will do :-)

There was a girl in our small town who peeled open a Fentanyl patch and touched her tongue to it... she died soon after.

PCP is just the opposite. It makes you SO very hyper that you literally ‘shut down.’

My daughter is fighting for her life to kick this crap, it is a miracle she is alive today.... she was raised in a conservative Christian home... I have been knee deep in this heroin epidemic for 3 years now... this drug is a discriminator of no one... many become addicted after using prescribed opiate pain pills.... if used for more than 90 days..... statistics shop 70% become addicted.... Again, this stuff is extremely addictive..... and once addicted.... you must have it to survive... it changes the chemistry of your brain... at that point.... they will do anything to get it.... Many say let them die... they really have no sense of the problem.... I say DP for dealers.... build the wall, 90% of this crap comes from Mexico... and if Mexico won't do it... destroy the poppie fields.... they have declared war on our children... time to fight back... Just to start....

You know, I used to think that way when I used to smoke 5 packs of cigarettes a day. I was hooked on them and one day, stopped...COLD TURKEY! I suffered some severe trauma for awhile but each day was a tiny bit better that the last until the day that I finally totally broke the bonds to to them.

Drugs are no different. You ARE going to suffer at first but each day is better than the last. However, dopers have no will-power to do anything themselves for they only want others to do it for them.

I have no pity of any doper who won’t take the hard steps to help themselves and not rely on the sympathy, sorrow and pity of others to wallow in the sewer with them.

If you know anyone dealing with opiate addiction... there are places they can go that will not bankrupt you; Teen Challenge (men and women houses across the US), Hebron Colony (men only in NC), Women at The Well (women only in TN) and Grace Home (women only in SC) to name a few.

Teen Challenge is a conservative Christian organization that will take any person in... they do not take insurance, most pay nothing... I paid $450/month for my daughter.... because I could.

Christian based long term treatments have been found to be highly successful... over 70% leaving the 12-15 month program will remain clean... unfortunately my daughter was not one of them. She is now in another Christian facility....

If in Recovery, go to AA, NA and or Celebrate Recovery... build a network of support... DO NOT go back to old friends... it may just kill you.

Phoenix Multisport (CO, CA and MA) is a free gym for those in recovery... run by persons in recovery for those in recovery... it is a great place to start your new network when leaving rehab....

Lastly, for men... join a Christian organization like Promise Keepers or Men's Discipleship Network... it is means by which to become accountable to your brothers... you would be surprised by how many in these organizations are in recovery....

Please pray for the families going through this ordeal... and for the addicted... I have met 1000's of persons addicted to Heroin... you would be surprised how the vast majority look like your children....

agree to a point.. but opiate addiction is far worse than nicotine addiction... it replaces the natural chemicals in your mine... it literally makes the junkie desire drugs more than all things... those that go cold turkey, without medical assistance, can die....

but in the end... you are right... you have to want to be clean more than anything else... to have a chance at deliverance....

I support selling the crap in 5 pound sacks at Safeway and Walmart to anyone over the age of 18. Make it pharmaceutical grade.

In 6 weeks all the idiots will be dead and we can run end loaders down the street and dump the corpses in landfills.

Sorry guy! I apologize! I’m just an old fart that doesn’t understand why kids stick this rot in their bodies. I, too know good, christian families that are ravaged by this stuff. I hope and pray your loved one can beat it. I just get frustrated when I see kids using this stuff. I was raised on a farm and there was no time to get high after milking the cows and doing chores.
