Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continued to insist Wednesday in a "Hannity" town hall with Fox News' Sean Hannity that there will be "no amnesty" for illegal immigrants, but suggested that he would be willing to "work with them."
His remarks were the latest in a series of recent interviews where he has said he is considering softening a previous pledge made at the onset of his campaign to deport 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. During a "Hannity" town hall on Tuesday, Trump said he was open to "softening" laws dealing with illegal immigrants.
On Wednesday, Trump told Hannity there would be "no citizenship" for those illegal immigrants.
"Let me go a step further- they'll pay back-taxes, they have to pay taxes, there's no amnesty, as such, there's no amnesty, but we work with them," Trump said.
He also spoke of how hard it would be to deport people who have lived in the country for decades and raised a family.
"Now, everybody agrees we get the bad ones out," Trump said. "But when I go through and I meet thousands and thousands of people on this subject, and I've had very strong people come up to me, really great, great people come up to me, and they've said, 'Mr. Trump, I love you, but to take a person who's been here for 15 or 20 years and throw them and their family out, it's so tough, Mr. Trump,' I have it all the time! It's a very, very hard thing."

I think so, too - women are highly vulnerable to the Democrats' "It's cruel to break up immigrant families" message. Honestly, that voting demographic is under intense pressure to vote for the "historic" candidate already. If Trump needs to adjust his course to keep them in the ranks, that just means he's learning very fast.
However, if he abandons the border control issue completely, the American anger that has fueled his rise to the candidacy will quickly turn on him. I'm sure he knows that he'd be playing with fire.
Being in the country illegally is a violation of federal law. If there is no amnesty then what is there to work on? They broke the law by being in the U.S., regardless of whether it's 20 days or 20 years. No amnesty would indicate no forgiveness for breaking the law. What result is there under those circumstances other than deportation?
“In my opinion it isn’t clear BECAUSE people can argue over the meaning of ‘subject to the jurisdiction thereof’.”
People argue about it because they’re ILLITERATE.
We don’t need black robed tyrants to clarify the meaning of the 14th. We need English teachers.
Youd think that someone so adept at strategies and tactics (as Trump is) would make those dynamics the central focus of his solution to the problem.
In his Immigration position on his site, he says any immigrants wish to come to the US MUST prove they are entirely self supporting, no gov bennies.
Government should work with illegal immigrants. ICE should work with apprehending them, regardless of when their crime was committed. Federal courts should work with deporting them and should hold them in custody until all hearings are complete and they are being transported to their home countries. There is a lot to do before we finally solve this problem.
The next generation will pay the price. Americans cannot compete with the numbers we are looking at....very BIG mistake
If he waffles on illegal aliens, he’s toast.
There are three choices this election.
1. Vote Hillary
2. Vote Trump
3. FU America. I choose Neither, I gots Principles.
U back pedal pretty good, soon enough u’ll be here in Texas and voting like me again for Teddy.
I’ve said from the beginning I’ll only vote for Trump for ONE reaon, the SC outside of that, you can have your democrat
If he waffles on illegal aliens, hes toast.
Ha, u hoisted him upon us and now I have no choice due to the SC. thanks
Not quite sure I get the essence of your post; care to rephrase it?
it pretty much explains itself.
I’m only voting for Trump for ONE reason and that is the SC
Outside of that, I don’t believe a thing he said about immigration, walls etc etc
I only hope my Senator can keep him in check.
But, seeing how they’ve kept the Obola fgger in check, It’s not likely.
My message to those NeverTrumpers is this, I don’t like him either but tough, the Supreme Court Nominees are what this election is all about. PERIOD
Oh I agree with you.
First and foremost that wall is THE single most important thing, because without it we will certainly be overwhelmed.
Secondly, make the atmosphere here in America so toxic, that many will self-deport, and others not be tempted to come. The biggest problem is with employers - and sanctuary cities. Fix those two problems - and two HUGE magnets evaporate. And no one gets their panties in a bunch the way they would if the MSM runs videos of a bunch of illegals being dragged screaming from their homes while their babies are clutching teddy bears.
Third - no birthright citizenship for the children of illegals, as this is a big come-on to the illegals.
Once these things are underway, address the balance of the problem - but never, ever grant voting rights to any illegals even if they get “right” by paying back taxes/fees/penalties/applying for work visa/paying court costs, etc.
Many illegals won’t do that stuff because if they did they wouldn’t be able to afford to live here AND send money back home - which is also a huge draw. I am guessing that Trump knows this, because everyone in the US knows this.
Most of the problem we have is our polices and looking the other way. Then comes allowing and encouraging these illegals to become activists. A lot can be done - so much - and we all really do know that.
But people are so reactive right now, and we are being played hard by the left and the establishment republicans. Yes, we are being played.
Having them present still feeds the D machine though...did he consider this? Also Byron York wrote in the Washington Examiner that none noted that Trump did not state his deportation strategy in his policy on the web.
(All he has to do is write(increase ICE agents by 500%), (increase immigration judges by 500%). And be done with it.
I am watching Coulter on this one-she wrote a book and then he flipped. Now is the time to have a go at him. Not later.
“In his Immigration position on his site, he says any immigrants wish to come to the US MUST prove they are entirely self supporting, no gov bennies.”
That’s all well and good, but he needs to spell out these aspects of his immigration policy in public speeches and media intrperviews.
In this age of sound bites and audio visual media, what sticks with people, is what they see on their screens.
Trump has got to make it clear that rigorous enforcement of our existing laws will cause the vast majority of illegals to self deport — no deportation force necessary.
He’s got to say that ten times a day, until it sinks in. Either he does that, or the media and the Democrats will set his policies in the people’s minds for him.
It’s been the do nothing government style that has got us into the problems with immigration we have. Unemployment, wasted money on services from health to schools, to roads while ignoring our real citizens by using funds for he trespasser while we deal with American homeless and illness and vets by throwing pennies at them.
“Does anyone here really believe that some kind of deportation force would go over with the mass public? Everyone on here who saw on TV (and you know it would be played 24/7) a family being dragged out of their home screaming and crying and taken to the border would be on here saying how bad they feel”
I can name a few that won’t. those that can’t feed themselves because they aren’t employed or are unable to get more than part time and substandard wages, almost 65% of the US workforce. And the number is based upon those getting unemployment and does not include all that fell off the radar and no longer get help. According to the US Bureau of Labor, 35% of all Americans financially support the rest of the country. As of 1 July 2016, out of a U.S. population of 324 million, 112 million private sector workers support 32 million government workers and government contractors, 95 million able-bodied people who can work but can’t find it, 70 million who cannot work, and 15 million unemployed and underemployed. The U.S. economy is not sustainable with only 35% supporting an overhead of 65%. The growing contingent labor force, which consists of mostly lower paid wage earners, makes the overhead burden even more precarious. More people with livable wages and greater discretionary income must be productively engaged in the private sector labor force for the U.S. economy to flourish. It says more people. The ones that are here illegally ar not on that list. They are harming the list and need to be taken off it by deportation.
If you are so worried about the families being dragged off, have you ever seen one like that? They go to the door of the illegals, ask them to step[ outside, get in a car, and move them. The only time they may be dragged is if they open fire and force the issue. And that has been done. But your choice of words is trying to talk about what other people would say just because the media says it’s wrong. Do you fear the media because they can try to make you feel responsible for the deportation? I’ll bet when it comes to you and your family, you’d vote for you.
Another aspect is that illegals in 2014 where I can find records, According to FY 2014 United States Sentencing commission data, of 74,911 sentencing cases, citizens accounted for 43,479 (or 58.0 percent), illegal immigrants accounted for 27,505 (or 36.7 percent) And that is just federal. ICE this last year removed a little over a quarter million people back to Mexico of which around 63K were convicted criminals. And that number is growing as states have been protecting them from ICE creating what they call sanctuary cities to stop ICE in its removal efforts, http://www.ojjpac.org/sanctuary.asp.
Remember that when they show some people being shot or stabbed by illegals on TV. Oops! Forgot. The media doesn’t show that. The libs need the voters.
“So all those saying if he doesnt have Deportation Force they are not voting for him need cant be real supporters. Trump hasnt changed his immigration stance. He has said all along that the good ones here working the Govt can work with either by sending them home and let them come back, or work out some process to get them legal.”
I couldn’t agree more. But first you have to remove all the illegals and refuse to let them come back if they are criminals. I haven’t said one negative thing about legals, just those that aren’t supposed to be here. We have an immigration process in existance and has been used for many years. Use it.
