Washington (CNN)The incredible increase in the cost of EpiPens, auto-injectors that can stop life-threatening emergencies caused by allergic reactions, has hit home on Capitol Hill, where one Democratic senator whose daughter has allergies has called for action and another Democratic senator's daughter is CEO of the company responsible for the price hike. Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, a Democrat whose daughter relies on EpiPen, urged the Senate Judiciary Committee to investigate the price increase of the medication, calling it "unjustified." Meanwhile, the daughter of Sen. Joe Manchin, the Democrat of West Virginia, has a very different personal connection. His daughter Heather Bresch heads Mylan, the company that produces EpiPens.

um.... HELLO there are CHEAPER generic alternatives!

I don't think there are anymore. I heard that the FDA has regulated the companies that make them out of business.

That’s what needs to be done but I seriously doubt Americans have the guts to do it.

From Heather Bresch's Wiki page

In 2007, Mylan secured rights to the nearly fifty year old EpiPen, used to treat anaphylaxis (severe allergic reactions).[29] Bresch advocated for broader availability of EpiPens in public places and helped pass the School Access to Emergency Epinephrine Act which made epinephrine more accessible in schools.[17][30] Between 2009 and May 2016, under Bresch's tenure as Mylan president, Mylan raised the price of a set of pens by nearly 500 %, from $103.50 to $608.61.[29] Proxy filings show that from 2007 to 2015, Bresch's compensation went from $2,453,456 to $18,931,068, a 671 percent increase. During the same period, EpiPen prices went from $56.64 to $317.82, a 461 percent increase, according to data provided by Connecture.[31]

Bresch, then-Gov. Joe Manchin’s daughter, got a phony degree from WVU. In the hubbub, the president, provost and a dean were forced to resign.

“The law makes an important change to the Children’s Asthma Treatment Grants Program and other federal asthma programs, which authorizes the Department of Health and Human Services to give funding preferences to states for asthma-treatment grants if they: maintain an emergency supply of epinephrine (EpiPens), if they permit trained personnel of the school to administer epinephrine, and if they develop a plan for ensuring trained personnel are available to administer epinephrine during all hours of the school day.”

There have been generic epinephrine “pens”/injector alternatives for a long time (since before Mylan jacked the price)...Mylan rain a VERY successful ad/lobbying campaign to get parents/schools to buy their Epipens. Just buy the generics for $145. for 2, and stop buying Epipens...price will come down.

Simple, learn how to use the product (Adrenaclick)...after all you had to learn how to use an Epipen. If reading instructions is too much...here is a video: http://adrenaclick.com/how_to_use_adrenaclick_epinephrine_injection_USP_auto_injector.php

it is blatantly illegal under 15 USC, with a ten year per count felony prison term, to attempt to monopolize, restrain trade or price-fix. Therefore it is only because of the explicit, intentional and outrageous conduct of your own government that you are getting raped like this on a literal daily basis, and this issue, as I’ve repeatedly pointed out is not limited to EpiPens — in fact, Mylan has raised prices on dozens of off-patent, generic medications by about the same 500% in the last few years and the only reason they get away with any of it is the above use of government force.

Damned straight. I really, really wish that Trump would take this in his teeth and run with it. We are being royally screwed by a bunch of criminals...and the entire federal government sits by with its collective thumb up its arse....because campaign contributions and lucrative contracts. Time to end that crap, and restore some sanity to the price of medical treatment and drugs. This will bankrupt the nation if we don’t stop it SOON.
