The very first thing that should have come to mind of the Iranian navy is to stay as far from an American naval destroyer as possible.
But no, not these days. These days they can bully the US, showing off to the world what pansies we are, and not a damned thing happens.

Ike ended the Korean War through passing word that he’s considering use of the atom bomb.
In Lebanon, Ike simply sent some men to Lebanon to keep the peace there. It worked. A small force. Prosperity and tranquility in Lebanon lasted for decades.

Actually every election this “strutting their stuff” is ore times than not seen and heard.
Iran wants to be seen as the powerful tough guy on the Middle Eastern block... by teasing this US destroyer......they know during a Presidential transfer of power the outgoing President won’t do a thing. So they strut their stuff.
Heck even Russia is trying to fill the gap Obama and Kerry left with Israel and the Palestinians....Putin’s trying now to be the broker....
Turkey invaded Syria today....Erdogan strutting his stuff now too.
All of these players know Obama will sit on his hands so they’re a bit bolder than normally would be this close to voting.
