The cartoonification of Noahs Ark
How such delightful depictions downplay the Delugeand Christianity
by Phil Robinson
A cartoon is a drawing in an unrealistic style, usually for satire, caricature or humour, and/or to appeal to children. Cartoonification (aka cartoonization) is a recent colloquialism for the process of making something thats real look cartoonish. I.e. drawing it in a (usually ridiculously) oversimplified, child-friendly or delightful manner.
Unfortunately, this has happened with Noahs Ark, marker of one of the key events in biblical history. Most depictions of it have become thoroughly cartoonized!
With the Bible so clear on the size, purpose and shape of Noahs Ark, its pervasive cartoonification is nothing short of amazing!
Todays common version of the Ark portrays it as a ridiculously-shaped small houseboat. It is mostly only able to carry a handful of the more well-known animals, with giraffes heads poking out of windows, and elephants trunks hanging down the side. This rather pathetic-looking, definitely non-ocean-going boat is featured on childrens books, celebration cards, novelty ornaments, and more. It has been made into childrens toys and, most disappointingly, put onto Sunday school walls.
The real Noahs Ark
The Bible in Genesis Chapter 6 very clearly sets out the dimensions, purpose and shape of Noahs Ark.
... Even using the smaller common cubit of c. 46 cm (18 in),1 Noahs Ark would have been a massive vessel: L × W × H 137 × 23 × 13.7 metres (450 × 75 × 45 ft), more than adequate for its task.2

Don’t confuse “joy” with “frivolity.” Joy doesn’t always wear an empty smile and a careless laugh.
So Jesus was “self righteously grim?” He was a “man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.” We are told that he mourned, cried, became exasperated, and often got angry. But never that he smiled or laughed. Were those terms not in existence in the biblical languages of the 1st Century?
Remember, it is written, with the Lord, all things are possible. My take on it is that prior to the flood, all animals were vegetarian.
Genesis 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
...
Genesis 5:20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
After the flood, God told Noah to eat the flesh of the beasts. I also assume God made the predators to also become meat-eaters.
Genesis 9:2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
Then, after New Jerusalem descents, the predators will eat meat no more.
Isaiah 66:253 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the Lord.
Sorry.
That last verse was from Isaiah 65:25, not Isaiah 66:253. (Doh!)
What’s a cubit?
Sorry, you need TWO pairs of elephants, FIVE pairs of rhinos, and TWO pairs of water buffaloes. Unless you want to talk about evolution at the species level? Of course, I think evolution of one species to another is verboten at the Creation Museum, right?
It’s also possible that the story is like a parable, meant to teach that God is willing to destroy evil but save the good, and will create promises to never hurt that which could be good. It doesn’t have to be literal, does it?
A cubit is the length of a man’s arm from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger.
About 18 inches.
An interesting video game from the 80s:
;)
Wrong. Read the first link. The division of one species into two is a key part of the post-flood diversity, but it is not the type of change required for molecules-to-man evolution.
It generally results from the genetic isolation of two groups followed by a loss of information in one or both groups that make it impossible for members of one group to produce fertile offspring with members one group. They are still of the same kind (the biblical term - elephants are still elephants), but no longer of the same species (which is really a modern concept.)
We don't refer to (frequently-observed) speciation caused by the loss of genetic information (or errant copying of existing information) as "evolution" to avoid confusion with the General Theory of Evolution, which requires the massive creation of new information (and has never been observed.) Those advocating the GTE generally refer to any type of change as evolution because they want all of it to appear to advance their theory, when in reality, it doesn't.

>> “ All souls were created before Genesis 1:2.” <<
Mormon much?
.
Ezekiel 18. All ‘souls’ belong to God. I have NO clue about Mormon doctrine. Now if all belong to God that means there is a finite number. Not some soul manufacturing plant in the heavens.
The rest of Genesis is understood as history, and there’s no linguistic reason to interpret Gen 1-11 as anything but history. That was the accepted interpretation until people decided to start reinterpreting it through the lens of Darwin, but there was no real reason to do that.

Many of the dinos are still here.
They are jungle creatures. They live in tropical swamps, and in the ocean.
.
.
The ark was more than 800 feet long (the cubit of a 8’ tall man was at least 2’).
.
The “waters” were a two light-year diameter sphere from which the universe was formed.
That is what the spirit was doing.

The animals were most likely all infantile.
The reptiles would have been eggs.
