Remember the earthquake in Bam, Iran, from 2003? The reason why over 26,000 people died in that earthquake was most buildings in that historic city were built up from hardened mud, and as such when that quake occurred, almost every building in that city was flatted with catastrophic results.
I was stationed in Aviano AFB in 77 and went to look at the Friuli earthquake damage. it was devastating to those old homes.
Lived through a few quakes while stationed there but our Barracks were built by the Nazis so not a single damage.
“This is a huge story! Cant believe theres so little about it.”
Probably because it’s just white people suffering and because there’s no way for the media to blame Trump for it so it’s not all that newsworthy to them.
Now they are saying 73 dead.
They are busy trying to find a way to link it to Global Warming.
You must not be from earthquake country. I am, and can tell you that a 6.2 will rock your world. I don't care how up to code your building is.
“You must not be from earthquake country. I am”
Just the opposite.
I was a few miles from the Loma Prieta epicenter.
For weeks there were aftershocks, many up to 6.
We got so we all became experts at how large a quake is. We’d throw money in to a pot after each one and everyone would write down their guess. Closest to it got the pot.
A few years later I was in LA when the Northridge quake hit.
Biggest ones I felt were further away in the desert so they weren’t so bad where I was, but they shook a long time.
I make that comment because I have so much experience with earthquakes, including big ones.
I agree 6 is not small and if one were close it would be even worse.
But in modern areas with buildings built or fitted, a six will not due massive damage.
I’m talking about damage.
In places like Iran and China a six can kill thousands.

Gotcha.
Here is a link from fox news. Over 120 dead, other report it as 6.4 richter, over 300 injured, and no mention of ruins that have not already been searched, also that a lot of city people go there for August vacations, so who knows how many people are there that will not be reported as missing immediately: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2016/08/24/magnitude-6-1-earthquake-rocks-central-italy.html
Too bad that Sunken Civ is no longer putting out CATASTROPHISM reports and a lot more at FR would be knowing about this. Perhaps some who know who is on that list can forward this information.
“This is a huge story! Cant believe theres so little about it.
Strong self reliant people who tend to deal with crises don’t seem to get the attention that third world types do. Just the way it is.
There was a tornado that hit (I can’t remember where) a somewhat working class region of some mid Atlantic state years back and it barely made any news. The people there rose up dealt with the devastation themselves.”
It’s the same here in Alabama.
On April 27, 2011, 62 tornadoes devastated Northern & Central Alabama & 243 people were killed. The super outbreak received very little attention in the media. I guess the Royal Wedding was more important. (Sarcasm)
The horrific damage in Tuscaloosa received some attention because of the University of Alabama, but the story received none of the coverage that Hurricane Katrina received.
Speaking of Katrina, the Gulf Coast of Mississippi was the hardest hit area from Katrina, but New Orleans received all the attention & sympathy.
I’m rather hoping SunkenCiv will come back, it’s just not the same here without him.
Just found another story that I know SC would want to pass on to the Catastrophism folk. Amazing the report about Stephen Hawkings plan. Also many comments, some very stupid. Hope you all can pass on to others interested.
The worst quake in Europe is forgotten, it happened in 1908 in Sicily.
