6.2 is not that big when buildings are up to code.

You must not be from earthquake country. I am, and can tell you that a 6.2 will rock your world. I don't care how up to code your building is.

“You must not be from earthquake country. I am”

Just the opposite.

I was a few miles from the Loma Prieta epicenter.

For weeks there were aftershocks, many up to 6.

We got so we all became experts at how large a quake is. We’d throw money in to a pot after each one and everyone would write down their guess. Closest to it got the pot.

A few years later I was in LA when the Northridge quake hit.

Biggest ones I felt were further away in the desert so they weren’t so bad where I was, but they shook a long time.

I make that comment because I have so much experience with earthquakes, including big ones.

I agree 6 is not small and if one were close it would be even worse.

But in modern areas with buildings built or fitted, a six will not due massive damage.

I’m talking about damage.

In places like Iran and China a six can kill thousands.
