The French ban on the burkini is threatening to turn into a farce as police officers armed with pepper spray and batons marched onto a beach today and ordered a woman to strip off.
Four burly cops stood over the middle-aged woman, who had been quietly sunbathing on the Promenade des Anglais beach in Nice - yards from the scene of the Bastille Day lorry attack - and watched her take off a Muslim-style garment which protected her modesty.
It is thought the woman was given a warning about the dress code on the beach and was handed an on-the-spot fine.
Another young Muslim mother was ordered off the beach at Cannes and fined for simply wearing a headscarf.
Three armed officers pointed a pepper spray canister in the 34-year-old's face and told her she was in breach of a new rule outlawing swimming costumes that cover the entire body.
She said the 'racist' officers simply wanted to humiliate her in front of her children and other family members, even though she was not even wearing a burkini.

Sound reasoning. Can’t argue with it.
“Her lovely homeland” -— which is...?
I wasn't aware muslim was a race.
Agree. This is really stupid. Just keep the Muslims out of France, that’s the real point. Unless harassing people in Burkas on the beach is a way to start running them out of the country. That I could see.
Thank you. I do appreciate it.
“She said: ‘Today we are not allowed on the beach. Tomorrow, the street? Tomorrow, we’ll be forbidden from practicing our religion at all? “
If the people of your religion continue their unabated violence on everyone else...then yes.
France is France, and isn't held to American rationale of course... but I think if their reasoning is to preserve French culture by ruling that the Burkini is un-French then they might have thought about this ages ago when they tried so hard to make North Africa and several other Arab nations French.
It's as silly as "The Fight To Keep China British".
That’s what I would have said but you beat me to it.
TS lady. When in France do as the French chicks do, or go home.
IMHO, with these savages and their women there can be no such thing as “overreach”.
Right, and Trump should ask their heroine that question.
Should have tazed and beaten her on general principle.
Then fed her to the fish.

Just speaking for myself, I don't hate muslims. I know some muslims, actually, and since 911 I've concluded that I wouldn't trust a single one of them with a cheese pizza.
I don't hate them, though, even though I no longer speak to them. I wish them well, and I pray for them, occasionally, that The Lord would send someone into their path to lead them into the right way, with him.
Fact is, that someone won't be me because they can't be my friends any more.
But I don't hate them. I can't afford to.
This story seems to blown out of proportion.
Okay. But I do. I can speak to them, but I hate what their religion represents. Islam. Represents torture and death of non-Muslims everywhere on Earth. I once had an Arab girlfriend, until she dumped me, maybe because of my Jewish name. But she didn't practice the Muslim faith. So I don't necessarily hate Arabs or other peoples normally associated with Islam. I guess I just really hate Islam. Too many Christians and Jews dying because of Islam. Did I mention I hate Muslims?
I just choose not to hate the muslims I know, and all I would expect of anyone else is... if you make that choice, be sure about it. Sounds like you are.
I suspected that. Can’t say for sure, but I know how the press is and they are going to work up a bleeding heart defense for them. We just know they will.
We’ve seen it so many times.
Mass killings and all we get is, well, don’t jump to conclusions.
Hack, spit...
As the Bible says, “what does light have in common with darkness?”
