Poll: Ted Cruz now viewed unfavorably in Texas, trails Rick Perry in hypothetical Senate race

A new poll suggests there is at least one fellow Republican who could unseat U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018: Rick Perry.

The former Texas governor would beat Cruz by 9 percentage points, according to the forthcoming survey from the Democratic-leaning firm Public Policy Polling. Set to be released later today, the poll found Perry would get 46 percent of the vote and Cruz 37 percent, with 18 percent saying they are not sure whom they would support…

In general, the poll shows Texas Republicans want Cruz to be their candidate for Senate again in 2018 — but not overwhelmingly. Fifty percent said they would like Cruz to be the nominee, while 43 percent said would like someone else to carry the banner.

Well, welcome aboard. I wish you’d put up your state on your home page. It’s sort of an anchor here and reassures me - at least - that you are here for the long haul.

I’m fascinated by your posts.

Think about it. He did all of the right things, checked all of the right boxes, made all of the right connections, and then when it came time for him to be crowned, some guy with funny hair and an orange tan from NYC steals his birthright. That is why he is so pissed. He felt Trump stole what was rightly his.

You left out the most important thing: everyone who's ever worked side-by-side with him since high school think he's a miserable SOB.

Perry will be a carbon copy of Cornyn. If you want someone other than Cruz, find someone else.

See if he is still a constitutional senator for the next 2 years. Perhaps he will grow up in the next 2 years. If not? Go Perry.

That will be an interesting thing to watch. Practically no one in the Senate likes him. If he actually tries to cooperate with McConnell and the Senate Leadership over the next two years instead of being a grandstanding bomb thrower, we'll know he's trying to change his ways.

I’m beginning to think it is true that Lee Harvey Oswald was CIA, and possibly Cruz’ father was, too, in a lesser way. But Oswald was double crossed in the Kennedy assassination, and Oswald was “removed” and Cruz, Sr. got outa’ Dodge pronto. Back then I would never have believed that of our gov’t...now, sadly, much is suspect.

“In future political history classes, they can use this example as what NOT to do at your party’s convention”

You’re exactly right. It will be just like teaching college students in government class about how the first televised debate between Nixon and Kennedy was an absolute disaster for Nixon (and he still won).

He now has sour grapes over the whole thing.

It's called politics. As has been said many times in the past, it ain't beanbag. He needs to get over it and put on his big boy pants if he expects to succeed on the national stage.

If you mean change his ways into being a liberal RINO, you’d be right.

It’s Cruz’ job to ask McConnell to cooperate with him and the conservative base of their party, not the other way around.

The Senate not liking him is the best reason to support Cruz. That’s a tremendous badge of honor.

The convention was his opportunity to be a great man but he proved what a petty, pissant ego-maniac he is.

He’d be worse. Perry has fooled a lot of Texans by signing popular second amendment bills. Truth be told, he is a vicious New World Order minion that frequents Bilderberg. He has essentially privatized the public highways in Texas delivered lucrative contracts to Cintra, a Spanish corporation, to manage the privatized roads.

Perry would be horrific for Texas.

Trump not only “stole his birthright” he made the point that his birthright was Canadian/Cuban, and his American citizenship was questionable. Still is!

The girlfriends and quite a few scandals are waiting to erupt on Teddy boy, AFTER the election... and before his senate seat is up.

He hasn’t lived with his wife for years.
He is NOT who he pretended to be.
He may be ineligible for the office he now holds due to the fact that he was NOT born in the USA and his parents were NOT citizens at the time of his birth in Canada.

Best advice for Ted?

Get out of our country interloper.

In any covert op such as the JFK assassination, it is critical to have a patsy that you know can be the fall man. Oswald was a fool. He was the perfect fall guy: he constantly fought with his wife and was abusive, he failed every job he had, he was disillusioned with the US and he moved to the Soviet Union, etc.

Guys like that make perfect patsies. That’s who gangs and religious cults recruits.
