For many establishment congressmen of both parties, being elected isnt a chance to make a difference in the political life of America. Its a sinecure that allows them to become fat off of special interest money and speaking fees.
Americans of all stripes are frustrated with this attitude, which is part of the reason why anti-establishment Donald Trump got the Republican nomination.
Now, Trump has made a huge move to end congressional sinecures and the politicos who occupy them. According to Associated Press, Trump told an audience in North Carolina that he would look into term limits for Congress if he were elected president.
Trump made the remarks Thursday afternoon while speaking before a group of local law enforcement officers in the swing state. A questioner asked the Republican nominee about it and said he wanted to get these bums out.
Trump gave him plenty to look forward to. He told the audience member that, (w)ere going to take a very serious look at establishing term limits.
While it would take a constitutional amendment to accomplish, make no mistake establishing term limits would arguably be the biggest accomplishment of any president since World War II.
Part of the mess were in as a country especially in terms of debt, deficit and political pusillanimity has to do with establishment politicians who hang around Washington for half a century or more.
One rarely (if ever) does this because theyre fighting for their constituents. Theyre addicted to power and all that comes with it. This power, unfortunately, is often wielded at our expense, particularly when it comes to government spending.

‘Congress - the legislature created them because we the public stampeded them into solving something that 9 times out of 10 is a non-problem.’
Well said.
The bottom line is that a president must act like a progressive due to current SCOTUS interpretation of the Constitution.
But acting like a progressive is not being one.
For example — tolerance of homosexuals. All employers [Trump included] are LEGALLY ADVISED to be openly pro-gay. It helps prevent civil rights lawsuits [which taxpayers fund BTW via grants to the ACLU].
Trump’s end game is through impressively sound federal judge choices. That’s his anti-progressive side.
‘Term limits is a fool-hardy response to an irresponsible and lazy electorate that wont do their due diligence to keep the right people in power.’
I agree. Let’s remove term limits to the White House. It’s fool-hardy and mentally lazy of voters to need such a restriction.
Let’s reduce the law enforcement personnel in the inner cities. Why adopt such a coddling big-government idea when what we really need is parents to spank their brats more?
Let’s reduce the military budget and let other nations fend for themselves against evil militarist nations. Why coddle weakness?
Same illogic.
‘If a President can be term-limited, then I say go ahead and impose the same restriction on Congress...’
Exactly.
We might want voters to get better informed and better educated, but wishing is for wells, not for political reality. We fight with the army that we have, not the army we wish to have.
Limited government — that’s a bedrock cornerstone.
Increasing power — that’s the bedrock cornerstone of a career politician. Rare is the congress member who can remain honorable past two terms.
TERM LIMITS... Yes...we need citizens who can say things in honest words instead of POLITICIANS who write 3,000 pages to tell you how to screw in a light bulb...
