Firefighters Union Abandons Hillary Clinton – Refuses Endorsement

The International Association of Fire Fighters, a politically powerful labor union, has abandoned its initial plans to endorse Democrat Hillary Clinton for U.S. president, the New York Times reported on Friday.

Citing union sources, the Times said the Clinton campaign was told on Monday by IAFF President Harold Schaitberger that there was not enough support on the union’s board or its rank-and-file members for an endorsement of the Democratic front-runner.

I am a member of a union that has a high majority of conservative leaning members (lots of former military). But despite the interests of a majority of its membership, its leaders still tend to endorse democrats in elections. For a union to withhold an endorsement, it must be facing a huge amount of resistance from its members to making the endorsement. This lack of endorsement by the Firefighters Union is one of those very strong but mostly hidden indicators that enthusiasm for Hillary is very very weak. The democrats are counting on Hillary winning because people will vote against Trump. I can’t recall any national election where that has worked. People vote FOR someone or they don’t vote. I’m sensing democrat turnout in this election is going to be tiny.

Half a loaf is better than none. Firefighter rank and file are likely trending away from Hillary and/or trending toward Trump. My wife is a paramedic (formerly on a ambulance, now works in a clinic) she hates Hillary with a passion, and is a grudging Trump supporter. Her fire, police, and paramedic friends are generally posting anti-Hillary memes, comments etc...

Her clinic co-workers seem to be mostly pro-Hillary.
