Donald Trump isn't a 'baby Christian'
Santa Cruz Sentinel ^ | 08/16/2016 | Sally Vance-Trembath

Posted on 08/17/2016 6:11:26 AM PDT by artichokegrower

The late, great Father Ted Hesburgh used to tell incoming students, "Come to Notre Dame and lose your faith." Many would be confused by that line, given that Notre Dame is a Catholic university, but the point Father Ted was making was that faith is more than a list of ideas or concepts and that it needs to be challenged by rigorous thinking and translated into action. All talk and no action does not make for a faithful Christian, and that's why Donald Trump's condescending words to an evangelical audience in Orlando took my breath away.

[[Sally Vance-Trembath teaches in the Department of Religious Studies at Santa Clara University. ]]

And she knows nothing about being a real follower of Christ since she thinks it is based on tradition and institutions.
Does she even own a bible ? Sure looks like she has never bothered to read it.

[[These sanctimonious sad sacks just can’t give it up. A vote not for Trump is a vote for certainty that a left wing Supreme Court which Hillary will have with her first pick as President will set the stage to set back the Prolife cause 50 years or even further. ]]

That is exactly what this NON CHRISTIAN professor wants.
She a TARE pretending to be wheat .

[[Well, we’re not electing a Pastor-in-Chief.]]

And she isn’t a Christian looking for one.

Even if he is, he’s running against Satan’s mouthpiece.

Point well taken but Pelosi is not a senator, she’s a Congressthing. The governor of CA is also a purported Catholic.

Yes, she lacks understanding of Who instituted the sacrament of baptism, and of its meaning and import.

Looked up Stanta Clara University. Jesuit school: ‘nough said.

She makes a lot of allegations, but doesn’t back them up. Pitiful, and emblematic of the decline of Christianity.

And I say that standing in the Catholic Church, where the tradition of infant baptism is ancient. We initiate people before they can speak for themselves, because we recognize that community life is a fabric woven of strands of symbols, rituals, ideas and commitments[ ... ]

For the record, the Catholic Church baptizes infants to wash away Original Sin, the initiation aspect is quite secondary. It's in all the catechisms.

The “all talk and no action part” seems to be her point. There is so much wrong with the rest of the article that really days could be spent untangling that mess. I feel sorry for her students. Let me simply say that you cannot willfully ignore things into nonexistence.

To the point though, I’m not honestly seeing anything concrete enough coming from any quarter to hang my hat on. Basically I’m looking at the individuals themselves like you would baseball cards. Who has a good batting average, who tends to strike out? Both say they want America to succeed, but who has a track record for coming in under budget and on time, and who has not (and we’ll leave it at that, rather than rehashing too many very unfortunate chapters in our history).

Christians regard the Sermon on the Mount as an admonition from Our Lord.
Liberals regard it as an indictment against Christians.

You have NAILED IT ON THE HEAD!

We don’t necessarily need a Christian President, we need one who will respect us and leave us alone.

No. He meant it literally and a great many did just that, with the assent and cooperation of the Holy Cross Fathers.

Notre Dame University has been absolutely corrosive to real Christian Faith in this country and especially among Catholics.

“The term “baby Christian” is just plain silly. And I say that standing in the Catholic Church, where the tradition of infant baptism is ancient.”

She probably thinks a fork in the road refers to an eating utensil.

I don’t know if Donald Trump is an evangelical Christian, but he is the only candidate willing to defend the Christian faith!

Bingo! Applying the "By their fruit you shall know them" test, I would have to conclude that Donald Trump is not a Christian. But it's quite clear that he is sympathetic to us, and he will support us and defend us. I'll take that any day over the CINO (Christian in Name Only) hag he's running against, who has made it abundantly clear that she hates real Christians and will oppose us at every turn.

I agree with your comments. I’m really not comfortable categorically stating that Trump is not a believer. The Bible says believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead and you will be saved. I know about Trump;s checkered marital past, but the NT is replete with conversion stories of such. I pray Trump has turned his heart over to Christ but the only person I can evaluate for susre is myself. I do know that Hillary espouses every humanistic, demonic, and antigod value ever imagined by the dark heart of man!
