Washington (CNN)Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Tuesday that the Gold Star father involved in a war of words with Donald Trump shouldn't get a "free ride" from public criticism.
Perry said Khizr and Ghazala Khan should have known that the Republican Party's presidential nominee would respond to their Democratic National Convention address. "Mr. Khan is the one that went out and struck the first blow, and in a campaign, if you're going to go out and think that you can take a shot at somebody and not have incoming coming back at you, shame on you," Perry, a Trump supporter, told CNN's Jake Tapper on "The Lead." Perry added: "Because he had a son that was lost in this war against terror, I mean that gives him a free ride to say whatever he would like against a candidate that he's not for? That's not proper, that's not correct." The Khans' son, a Muslim-American U.S. Army solider, was killed in Iraq in 2004. In a fiery speech at the DNC last month, Khizr Khan accused Trump of not understanding their sacrifice, an attack the real estate mogul later called "vicious."

No one is ever exempted from criticism or given free reign to say whatever they want without accountability or response.

Responding to people like Khan are what surrogates are supposed to do. He addressed it in a very effective manner so anyone watching it probably nodded unlike when Trump says anything about it they go into hysteria.
This is what Trump MUST allow his surrogates to do and he has some excellent ones who are very media savvy. Concentrate on his winning message (his message wins across the board) and let the surrogates handle the distractions and media sniping. Trump can pick and choose his shots and use advertising for that - the media is blowing every little thing he says into crap that dominates a media cycle and drowns out his winning message.
Yeah, it’s wrong and unfair, but that is reality. Trump has to stay on message because he will destroy her. He simply has to avoid the bickering crap because that is all they cover.
I agree. The Dems used the Khans as their version of a human shield....a safe haven from which to launch an attack. No different than ISIS using a school to store missiles. Then, if there is retaliation, the feigned outrage is the calculated response.

Trump should leave it to other people, like Perry, to respond to that angry mohammaden Khan. Trump should keep talking about the economy and security.

I am sorry for their loss and thank their son for his ultimate sacrifice. But the Rats dug deep to find this incident that happened 12 years ago. That does put a different light on this.
