Lashing people to posts and burning them alive..... Sounds familiar. Oh yeah The Church did that till the 1800s, to those that disagreed with them.
Actually, if you read the proceedings of the Inquisition, you'll see this phrase repeatedly when a person was found guilty: "and he was handed over the secular arm to be burned."
Heresy was a capital crime according to the state. The Church just handled the fact-finding part of the trial, not the sentence.
Never heard of an evangelical burning anyone at a stake?
