KING: Milwaukee riots weren't just caused by Sylville Smith's death, or police brutality, but
NY Daily News ^ | 08/15/2016 | LilShaun King

Dr. King, who was actually a very woke radical, said in a March 1968 speech that “a riot is the language of the unheard.”

I want to lead with Dr. King, in part because his words are so often bastardized by enemies of the Black Lives Matter Movement, to explain why our modern day concerns and methods are all wrong. Daily, I see some conservative say, “Dr. King would be turning over in his grave” if he knew this, that, or the other about black folk today. That's garbage. There's nothing new under the sun. Everything we are dealing with today, ranging from police brutality, to overt discrimination, to economic inequality, to the unrest and riots that often grow out of such conditions, was deeply and painfully familiar to Dr. King as well.

He was arrested at least 30 times in protests and demonstrations over inequality in America. Back when he was being arrested, critics were probably saying Booker T. Washington would be turning over in his grave over Dr. King's practices. King called these protests and other actions “civil disobedience.” In essence, he felt it was necessary to sometimes break laws, but in a civil manner, be it through a march on a road or a sit in at a lunch counter, to demonstrate to the world the unjust conditions being experienced in black communities all over this nation. The goal was to be seen and heard by the nation, and indeed the world, in order to effect demonstrative change in local communities.

When Dr. King said “a riot is the language of the unheard,” I believe it was, in part, a peek into his own emotions and frustrations with how slow society was changing. He knew what it was like to want justice, to want equality, to want fairness and balance, but not have it. He knew what it was like to speak out, but be ignored. Non-violent resistance was not the natural human (or American) response to injustice, but an incredibly difficult value decision that required training to uphold.

It takes a special kind of stupid to riot and loot in your own community: where the jobs and wealth of your own family and friends are likely to be harmed.

It was once the case that this special sort of stupid was NOT found within the black community or general population of the United States.

Sure, there had been racially motivated riots but these took a more insidious form where people went somewhere else to burn down someone else’s community. We can file that under them being both rat-bastards and also prudent enough to not run riot in their own stomping grounds.

The post-modern counterparts to these rat-bastards of old are the odd socialist/commies/anarchists throwing rocks and generally violently misbehaving.

No matter if the “well bless their hearts” idiot or the rat-bastard sort: rioters and looters should probably be shot by the ordinary citizens whose lives, prosperity, and property they threaten. At any rate, if you tolerate rioters (by not shooting them, never mind protecting them afterwards by observing some bias against snitching) expect more riots.

I’ve previously observed that around the time that some FEW black persons started burning down their own communities, decades after the last time white rioters burned down a black community, that the same communities have been in an accelerating downward spiral.

“Idiots” and “special kind of stupid”, you see, is not really a matter of intelligence but of believing stupid, foolish things. As a consequence the sort of idiots in question breed by word of mouth, by indoctrination, rather than just by having kids.

Once black persons in this country faced real hardship in the form of racism: lynchings, burning down whole communities and all sorts of stuff like that there. After every disaster, every in-your-face injustice, black persons would do their best to dust themselves off and get back to working for a future for themselves and their posterity. Some might give into despair or become criminals and malcontents but they didn’t have control of the race narrative within those communities.

But since it has been black persons burning down black communities, and especially since the criminal element (that sometimes only ever seems to prey of other blacks) has glorified itself, the race narrative has shifted into the hands of the very people who undermine what is strong, smart and, frankly, wise to be found ... everything that makes success in life more likely. In place of prosperity there is predation ... and it’s no wonder that blacks who prey on blacks, or who have unhappily gotten used to bring preyed upon by other blacks, think the “other”, the “not we” (white people ... but also Jews, Hispanics, what have you) are preying on them too.

Some editorial license there.

The only thing keeping them in those $hi+hole$ are themselves. The black family down the street from me don’t have those kind of problems, because they moved away from them, behaved as civilized humans and don’t expect handouts. And their son is pursuing a degree in law enforcement rather than drugging and mugging.

I also could not imagine Dr. King, a man of the cloth, would embrace the concept that one human life is worth more or less than another based on skin color.

Yeah, it's the left wing rag Fusion...but it answers the question.

How ‘woke’ went from black activist watchword to teen internet slang

Right, "very woke". Very tired of this white man Shaun King pretending that he's black and trying to talk black.

That, though, was not a riot in the ordinary sense of the term. It was an uprising, a revolt.

The difference is somewhat, perchance largely, to be found in the specific conduct of the veterans: who responded in an orderly, goal oriented fashion with some tactical acumen and were not running amuck threatening the lives and property of ordinary citizens.

Rioters, otoh, go about acting as a naught but a mob and show little tactical sense or discipline.

Had the veterans been rioters the Sherrif would have possibly carried the day.

These people rioting and looting, especially if rioting and looting within their own communities, deserve no quarter from those whose lives and property that they threaten. They can be opposed with minimal numbers precisely because they are riotous mobs, and the claim I’ve occasionally heard that resisters would be badly outnumbered is laid bare as bravado for precisely that reason.

One might convince a line of soldiers that you having 5 bullets left is no great detriment to them overtaking you because of their discipline ... but discipline among rioters is likely like herding cats....
