FOX6's A.J. Bayatpour spoke with Smith's father, Patrick on Sunday. He had this to say in the wake of the shooting of his son by Milwaukee police and the violence that followed:
What are we gonna do now? Everyone playing their part in this city, blaming the white guy or whatever, and we know what theyre doing. Like, already I feel like they should have never OK'd guns in Wisconsin. They already know what our black youth was doing anyway. These young kids gotta realize this is all a game with them. Like theyre playing Monopoly. You young kids falling into their world, what they want you to do. Everything you do is programmed. I had to blame myself for a lot of things too because your hero is your dad and I played a very big part in my familys role model for them. Being on the street, doing things of the street life: Entertaining, drug dealing and pimping and theyre looking at their dad like 'hes doing all these things.' I got out of jail two months ago, but Ive been going back and forth in jail and they see those things so Id like to apologize to my kids because this is the role model they look up to. When they see the wrong role model, this is what you get. They got us killing each other and when they even OK'd them pistols and they OK'd a reason to kill us too. Now somebody got killed reaching for his wallet, but now they can say he got a gun on him and they reached for it. And thats

"I dont know when were gonna start moving. Ive gotta start with my kids and we gotta change our ways, to be better role models. And we gotta change ourselves. Weve gotta talk to them, put some sense into them. They targeting us, but we know about it so theres no reason to keep saying its their fault. You play a part in it."
It's intermingled with conspiracy theory stuff about the system but you can tell he's not totally lost.
The point is that a big part of his statement is him putting the blame where it belongs. Namely on himself, and on black people themselves. I give him credit for that. You can build on that.
Good catch. They? That is weird.
As I write this, Sheriff David Clarke is reviewing Smith’s arrest record in a press conference. Most of the charges brought against Smith were dismissed. As he noted, criminals need to be held accountable; when charges are dismissed—for whatever reason—it’s a free ticket for them to prey on the public again.
Clarke also deserves kudos for asking Governor Walker to mobilize the National Guard. He understands that the Guard needs time to gather its resources and deploy. Clarke also made it very clear that this will not be another “Ferguson,” where days passed before the Guard was deployed and the thugs had a field day.
Wonder if Clarke would consider a run for governor when Walker reaches the end of his current term. The man is very impressive, to say the least.
I love him. He is a true hero really. He knows what goes on behind the scenes in crime. God Bless him. Yes Gov would be nice. Or post in Trump cabinet.
Thank you so much for that update.
One more thing....It sounds like that presser had to leave a mark. Valjar screaming and tossing things right now at MV.
We were tv free for 16 years except for a 12 inch hooked up to a vcr for Friday movines.
We invested in tons of cds and story tapes. Both educational and decent entertainment songs and stories. Kids each had their own player. Best life
and we read every morning and night for a couple of hours.
“Better to steal stuff thats on sale.”
Yeah, with Wholesale Theft you get a reduced sentence.
I bet if they hadn’t “OK’d guns in Wisconsin” his son would have one anyway.
But that’s just me. :-)
Yet, Jesse and Al want to blame everyone except those who are at the root of the problem: themselves. With 72% blacks born into a house with no father, they don't have a chance. It takes no brains to be a father, but it takes courage to be a parent. We've thrown trillions of dollars at this problem and it's only gotten worse. I say, no more until we see a concerted effort on their part to clean up their own act.
Just another day in the hood. Nothing will change unless you want it to happen badly enough.
