One of my distant ancestors was a descendent of the Scythians, a Hun who rode with Attila until the Miracle of the Sun [when the pope visited] made him a Believer. His descendents became French hugonauts who fled the persecution there.

The Scythians were indeed an Amazing people, they could shoot a bird in flight with the left or right hand riding at a full gallop.
I took two year of Attic (ancient) Greek and when we came to this verse:
Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Our instructor amazed me.
The people at the time knew full well of the Scythians, they were very fierce. The Great Wall of China was begun in the third century to keep the Scythians out.
However, and it took my breath away when he said this. The Bible here is stating that salvation is offered even to the barbarian, but furthermore, salvation is offered even unto the "utter barbarian" ie, the Scythians. This would have been absolutely shocking to the reader, that Salvation could be extended to even the Scythians.
You had to be there, but suffice it to say it had a big impact on me, as I in many ways am the utter barbarian and in desperate need of Salvation.
