Donald Trump asked a foreign policy expert advising him why the U.S. can't use nuclear weapons, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said on the air Wednesday, citing an unnamed source who claimed he had spoken with the GOP presidential nominee.
"Several months ago, a foreign policy expert on the international level went to advise Donald Trump. And three times [Trump] asked about the use of nuclear weapons. Three times he asked at one point if we had them why can't we use them," Scarborough said on his "Morning Joe" program.
Scarborough made the Trump comments 52 seconds into an interview with former Director of Central Intelligence and ex-National Security Agency Director Michael Hayden.
Scarborough then asked a hypothetical question to Hayden about how quickly nuclear weapons could be deployed if a president were to give approval.
"It's scenario dependent, but the system is designed for speed and decisiveness. It's not designed to debate the decision," Hayden said.
Hayden was CIA director from 2006 to 2009 during the George W. Bush presidency. He was the National Security Agency director from 1999 to 2005, spanning the presidencies of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
CNBC reached out to the Trump campaign via email and was awaiting a response.
>>”but most of the voters will have visions of Hiroshima & Nagasaki in their heads.”
No they won’t. Most of the voters weren’t even born then.
The media pulled this same exact stuff on Reagan in 1980.
Yep, the 80s were full of rock songs depicting how Reagan would get us into a nuclear war.
Because our nuclear arsenal are weapons of deterrence rather than weapons of aggression.
Or any song by The Fixx.
Because our nuclear arsenal are weapons of deterrence rather than weapons of aggression.....Maybe it’s time to change that old thinking. Like the Progs. want to change the Constitution.
I'm agreeing with you. That's why I say they have to be physically destroyed - nothing else will work. They can't be ignored, because they're attacking and murdering. They won't go away, because they're reproducing like crazy. They are, quite simply, and by their own declaration, the enemy of the entire human race, to the death. Therefore if the human race wants to live, it can either turn completely Muslim, or completely exterminate ALL the Muslims.
The MUSLIMS are saying this, not me. I'm just pointing it out - and I'm also pointing out that they mean it. 1400 years of total, murderous consistency, accompanied by billions of murdered people, is a very reliable indicator of true intent.
I’ve no interest in changing that type of thinking and will kill my support of Trump yesterday if I knew he did.
Maybe a set of balls would behoove you? We are in the greatest fight EVER!
He might be satirizing the media spin on Trump as trigger-happy and ready to nuke someone. At least that’s my take.
Steve Breen is normally a fairly conservative guy. He’s certainly no crazy liberal. SD Union Tribune is a mildly conservative newspaper.
Soooo, one needs to be alive at the time when history is made?
What a truly evil cartoon.
The Japs would disagree with you. BTW...welcome to FR Noob ;)
See my post above #130.
I think it’s satire, actually. Poking fun at the latest media effort to derail Trump. I’ve been reading his cartoons for a long time, and Breen is no friend of the Democrats.
Nobody in his right mind would believe Trump would nuke poor Mrs. Jones from Wichita. But the Democrats want us to think that Trump is the scariest thing ever to come down the pike.
Good to know, thanks.
He needs to ignore this BS. They are trying to get him off subject. Regardless of the conversation this specific question, it reminds me of when Hillary said Trump can’t be trusted with the Nukes. So, my personal opinion - it’s BS
99 luft-baloons. . .
For millennials. . .yes.
The reality of no longer being the sole nuclear power committed us to non-proliferation and nuclear deterrence. The small window of time we could use them as we did in WWII has moved on. The world turns and new rules arise.
“...why we can’t drop bombs filled with Black Plague over Mexico City.”
Who would notice?
