Sorry about that. What is the fair margin on gas? I keep asking and you won’t answer but that was a poor guess.

I didn’t mean to make a juvenile reference but now that you mention it children do get hung up on fairness. I always taught mine that life wasn’t fair.

Your concern is valid your are being charged an amount much higher than need be charged. You now readily agree that your course of action is public denigration and pushback. Despite as you said watching this for decades.

I offer a path out. Try cutting back on the BS regulations and taxes. Get rid of the onerous laws that prevent entry into the Kali market by more distributors and refiners. Then the companies will beat up on each other like they do in most states.

Or go the rest of the way with government control over the industries and regulate prices. I’m sure the beneficent gov of Kali will be fair and prices will move in lockstep with a fixed margin.

Just a simple law. Set a fair margin, add taxes, add the wholesale price of gas and that is the total at the pump. Does that work for you?

Do you bother reading my posts?  You asked me that question and I responded at one point by saying the business itself set the fair profit needed when the price was high.  I didn't ask that profits per gallon be any less.  If you had cared, you could have read that and come away with a fairly good idea where I was coming from.  If the profit was say 75 cents per gallon when the price was high, then a 75 cent profit for gallon should be more than fair considering the price had dropped by 60 cents.

I'm not looking to run anyone out of business or be unfair.  All I am asking is that the oil corporations give a sucker a break.  The average Joe needs breaks too once in a while.  I don't think that is honerous, Leftist, or Communistic in nature.

As did I.  Unfortunately we're not talking about a 16 year old daughter dating a 28 year old male here.  We both have agreed that the oil producers have gamed the system on this one.  That being true, it is okay to raise hell over this.

Well, if you have a better idea, go for it.  I wouldn't opt to get government involved because our government gets everything it addresses foulled up.

So it's your perception that what I have addressed isn't taking place in other states?  I think you are wrong there.  Their prices are less, but the same gaming goes on.  It probably isn't as pronounced as it is in California, but I'll bet that if you run the numbers of what gas cost you when $100 barrels were the norm, and today when we're hovering around $30 bucks a barrel, I think you'll find the per barrel cost dropped considerably more percentage wise than the pump prices.  I'm not in other states, so I can't tell you that for sure, but I'm certain that's the case.

Or go the rest of the way with government control over the industries and regulate prices. I’m sure the beneficent gov of Kali will be fair and prices will move in lockstep with a fixed margin.

You see, if the oil company had been reasoned, I wouldn't be raising this issue.  The oil companies have nobody to blame but themselves for this mess.  I do not want the state or the feds involved, but these guys have decided to screw us over and I don't like.  Why you try to make this an issue of free enterprise vs the collective is beyond me.  There are crooks out there too.  Not every private industry decision is above board, and I think it's reasoned to addresss obvious malfeasance.

Just a simple law. Set a fair margin, add taxes, add the wholesale price of gas and that is the total at the pump. Does that work for you?

I'm in favor of the company setting it's own margin.  It did when the price was high.  Now it's not happy with that margin even when the overall prices have dropped.

Why do I address it this way?  If they were making 75 cents off every gallon at $4.50 per gallon, why is 75 cents profit not good enough at $1.50 a gallon?  If crude dropped from $100 a barrel to $30 a barrel, that's what were looking at.

A 75 cent profit on $1.50 a gallon gas, is a huge mark-up as it is.  Why do they need another 56 cents?

These are hypothetical numbers, but whatever numbers you plug in, the same concepts apply.  I'm not trying to game the issue by making them look bad using wild estimate numbers.  This is a concept and should work well with the proper numbers plugged in.

Whatever profit they mad at the higher prices, should be reasoned a the lower prices.  The same profit margin should be more fair to the companies at the lower costs.
