Donald Trump said Tuesday he would support raising the federal minimum wage to $10 an hour, a departure from his previous assertion that wages are "too high."
The Republican presidential nominee was pressed to provide a specific number by Fox News anchor Bill O'Reilly, who said, "there has to be a federal minimum wage."
Trump initially dismissed that suggestion.
"There doesn't have to be," Trump said. "I would leave it and raise it somewhat. You need to help people. I know it's not very Republican to say."
"Ten bucks?" O'Reilly asked.
"I would say 10. I would say 10," Trump agreed. "But with the understanding that somebody like me is going to bring back jobs. I don't want people to be in that $10 category for very long. But the thing is, Bill, let the states make the deal."

I worked for a company whose revenue came 50% from international sales.
A 20% tariff on imported goods would create incentives for other nations to do the same. This might decrease sales of such an American company by 10%. After some painful downsizing, the American company might be able to get its profit levels back up to 90% of that prior to the enacting of the tariffs. The adjustments to do so would entail laying off 10% of its work force.
Does your "mathematical fact" take this into account?
The Smoot-Hawley Tariff of 1930 is credited by some for having prolonged a world-wide depression.
I get the impression that a lot of people here around really like the income tax. Weird.
Other nations already rape the US for import duties.
"by some" = historical charlatans.
Better yet, close the border and deport them where you find them.
Otherwise, look out for the unintended consequences brought about by your cockamamie "solution."
Who is "we" kemosabe?
Where exactly did you get the 20% number? Why not 100% or 200%?
If we simply outlawed all trade with other nations, perhaps we would do just fine. I suspect however that there would be widespread smuggling in both directions, creating the need for a police state.
With no tariffs, no need for the police.

>> “With no tariffs, no need for the police.” <<
Which is half of the reason why we have tariffs.
"Dammit, man, don't try to talk sense into these people!
The next thing you know you'll be telling them it's a
complete nothingburger anyway, as automation will
eliminate 90% of these jobs completely within 5 years!"
Shazam. Maybe the robots will unionize though.

That, indeed, IS the minimum wage. That's what's paid to the wanna be workers priced out of work by the fake minimum wage.
Raising minimum wage has never worked. It devalues the money in your pocket.
The FLOOR is already at about $10.00 to start, so not real sure what your point is...
Do you know what the avg hourly wage is in the USA across all non-farm, non-management segments ...?
I just saw the Bridge over the River Kwai a movie starring William Holden and Alec Guinness. Guinness portrays Col Nicholson a British POW who helps the Japanese build a Bridge on a railway to help the Japanese Army move their troops and resources. Nicholson (Guinness) gives it full cooperation and rallies the men (allied pows) to do it. He thinks building a bridge would be a wonderful legacy to leave to future generations and he would be so proud of it as it bolstered his ego. He is completely not facing the fact that he is helping the Japanese war machine and is there fore a traitor.
It reminds me of the GOP traitor class Graham, Ryan and McCain who are helping the Democrats with breaking our borders. They are doing it because of ideology(Ryan believes that labor and capitol should move across borders at will) and because they get such good strokes from the enemy media and so forth. They really only helping the Democrats take over the country and helping to marginalize the Republican base which is the ordinary traditional middle class economically and politically. They just do not see how they are helping the enemy take over the country and set up a socialist globalist order defeating the people who elected them in the first place is anything but the treason that it is. This movie is an example of their pathetic treason and the mind set behind it. I recommend everyone got to net flix and see this movie and show it to others telling them about the mindset that I mentioned and how it relates to the GOP traitor class.

Looks like you need 4th grade math lesson. An “average” does not mean a minimum. A minimum wage increase will increase the average 100% of the time. Do you think those who are earning $10 now will be content if the minimum wage is $10? They say, “but why do those $7 people get a $3 raise, but not us?”. THINK, please.
I asked you what the average wage is in the USA, not what the minimum wage is...
The average wage is 22 + dollars an hour...
Read please...and think...
But to answer your question, I already stated most new hires are making 9 to 10 dooars to start...Look it up..if you need to help finding such information, just ask...
So your 7 dollar example is a very small % of the minimum wage pool...which makes your point moot..
Now that I think about it raising the minimum would increase the demand for illegal labor.
Yup...
I have always been an advocate of a two tier system...16 to 19...no minimum wage for 90 days...pay what the market will bear....
Depending on the local economic conditions and locations it will vary greatly...
That will put lots of kids to work and start learning the value of a labor dollar...
20 and up...indexed to local minimum wages for 90 days...
