It was a scheme designed to offer Syrian refugees a new life in Scotland, away from the horrors of their war-ravaged homeland.
But some of the first to be given sanctuary in Rothesay eight months ago have spoken of their unhappiness on Bute, saying it is full of old people and a place where people come to die.
Argyll and Bute Council was among 16 Scottish local authorities to sign up for the initiative, with the first 100 Syrian refugees flown to the UK and on to Scotland in November last year. But Abd, who had been making trips to Glasgow to find work, said: I didnt expect to come to this island. We thought we were going to London or Manchester. But whenever we say anything about moving off the island, we are told We had to pay a lot of money to bring you here. I feel like its an obligatory residence. I feel humiliated. I didnt come here for anyone to control me.

When depressed, do what I do, hang yourself.

Go to Greenland, Land of Opportunity!

A true refugee would appreciate living anywhere
Nah man I feel a bit of sympathy for the Arkies.
Since she loves the moslem money so much maybe
Libya would be a good spot for her.
Sounds heavenly. Until the undesirables were dropped off on the island, I would have said the perfect place for me to be as God intended: a hermit.
If these pieces of filth don’t like this beautiful slice of heaven, they can just go back to the hellhole from whence they came.
A red-blooded American might think of joining the Army and kicking the shit out of those who had invaded. But, a supremacist Muslim thinks, what me worry? And why aren’t you dogs treating me better.
Obviously, between the radical Muslims and the supremacist Muslims, the killers are worse than the moochers. So, thank God for the supremacists.
So unfair that they don’t have young women to rape.
LOL
Poor spoiled brats.
Maybe the Brits need to do some bombing so they feel more at home.
I love bagpipes!
The refugees have been given five years Humanitarian Protection status, permission to work and access to public funds. Twelve months of costs, excluding economic integration, are met by the UKs overseas aid budget.
It also sounds like the local council will be forking out some of that money after 12 months.
Looking at Google Maps, it’s hard to say that Bute is “remote,” being about 20 mi. from Glasgow, and at the same latitude, although it does appear to be rustic. I think Scotland itself is “remote”, or would certainly seem so to anyone of the Syrian ilk.
The ten-year-old Maxwell, having been raised in ISOLATION on his father's countryside estate, did not fit in well at school.[25] The first year had been full, obliging him to join the second year with classmates a year his senior.[25] His mannerisms and Galloway accent struck the other boys as RUSTIC. Having arrived on his first day of school wearing a pair of homemade shoes and a tunic, he earned the unkind nickname of "Daftie".[26] He never seemed to resent the epithet, bearing it without complaint for many years.[27] Social ISOLATION at the Academy ended when he met Lewis Campbell and Peter Guthrie Tait, two boys of a similar age who were to become notable scholars later in life. They remained lifelong friends.[10]
