Mississippi's state flag didn't last long on Broad Street in South Philadelphia.
City workers on Monday removed the red, white, and blue banner - which has the Confederate flag in the top left corner - from a lighting standard near Passyunk Avenue after dozens of protesters and some local residents asked for it to be taken down, city officials said.
It had been put up about two weeks ago among a collection of state flags on South Broad. It won't be put up again, said Brian Abernathy, a deputy managing director for the city, who said, "The Confederate flag raises strong feelings in our city."
Posts on social media showed a raucous reception when a man in a cherry picker pulled the flag down Monday afternoon. Protesters, some of whom had gathered around the flag demanding its removal, chanted: "Whose streets? Our streets!"
If Mississippians were upset about the decision, they weren't easy to find in Philadelphia.
Ouida Meruvia, a spokeswoman for the Mississippi Democratic Party, said the state's delegation fully agreed with the city's decision. In fact, she said, the delegation had removed a flag placard designating where they sit on the convention floor for the same reasons.
"The Democratic Party in Mississippi does not advocate the Mississippi flag," she said. "A lot of delegates have come out against it."
Curley Clark, a Hillary Clinton delegate and president of the Jackson County, Miss., NAACP, said the flag was "an affront to the descendants of slaves" and "should be changed."
Vern Gavin, a 66-year-old Clinton delegate from Mississippi, also welcomed the flag's removal from Broad Street.
"I think it sends a statement that Mississippi needs to follow the Union and let go of the history of our state," he said.

They will never stop until every element of southern history has been eliminated. They have already torn down monuments and will not stop until the last of the confederate dead have been dug up and cremated with their ashes dumped in undisclosed locations.

But the Soviet flags being paraded around Philadelphia is Okey-dokey.
Such censorship relies on coercively-imposed restrictions on speech which, in America, was intended to be that speech which was unrestrained by political fiat or that which might "offend" another.
As a matter of fact, that great champion of the rights of conscience and free speech, Thomas Jefferson, stated:
"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."Contrast that idea of freedom with the group think imposed on college and university students who are subject to haughty and arrogant "professors," bureaucrats and politicians of the "progressive" mindset!
These assorted mind controllers have concluded the view expressed by Thomas Jefferson here is dangerous and must be opposed. Their bias in favor of "progressivism" blinds them to the real intent and purpose of the First Amendment's protections.

As I see it, some of the Soviet flags were right under the (now removed) Mississippi State flag. How low we have sunk! Little Chicken S**ts, as I see it!

Hard to tell. Most likely the other American flag - the one with 50 stars will be next. The Democrat party is the party of Obama and Jerimiah Wright. And Rev. Wright is noted for saying G— D—— America.
If you read the popular press you'll find some schools have already banned flying the American flag. Soon the American flag will be as unwelcome as a policeman in Democrat controlled cities.
Then they will start on our Founding Fathers.
