CLEVELAND Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is already focused on picking people for his future Cabinet.
A day before accepting his partys nomination and completing an astonishing political rise that has taken him to the heights of the Republican Partys power, Trump met with his inner circle at the Cleveland Westin to discuss his possible transition.
Eric Trump told The Hill that his father is determined to put together a Cabinet that can help him turn around the country. He suggested his father would look to the private sector to find effective leadership for government.
You have to have the best people, and you have to put those people in charge, and those people have to be the best at what they do, and thats going to be my fathers message, Trump said.
If were going to have the biggest deals in the world, which are trade deals, why not have the best guys negotiate this? Why not have the Carl Icahns or the top guys of Wall Street? he added. Its why theyre worth millions and billions of dollars. Its because theyre tough and theyre shrewd.
Donald Trump recently floated former Goldman Sachs executive Steve Mnuchin as a possible choice to head the Treasury Department, a development first reported by Fortune. Mnuchin serves as the national finance chairman of his campaign.
Icahn, one of the nations savviest investors, said last year he was not interested in heading Treasury.
Youll probably see a lot of people who are outside traditional Washington, D.C., Eric Trump added. The people who are in there right now havent exactly done this country wonders.

The Trump Wall will be Barron's first construction project.
“Gingrich told him that he wants to serve as a senior adviser with special authority to examine the federal bureaucracy and identify examples of waste, fraud and abuse. “
Actually, that doesn’t sound bad for Newt. Seems very appropriate for his skills and interests.
I believe TSA is under Homeland.
Oh my....he looks just like his father.
We should pull out of the UN and demolish the building. Trump would have pleasure of pressing the demolition button.
You forgot one of the WORST - the EPA
So, are you saying that Trump does not need Congressional approval shut down these departments?
Why? They did not exist for 200 years, why do we need them now?
Yup. It’s very common for a company to hire consultants to do the firing.
Maybe they love their country, want to contribute time and energy, and want to Make America Great Again.
Make tha the 1960s. This country was going gangbusters until Johnson came along.
I believe 'private sector' in this context means people who ran/created businesses - as apposed to 'private citizens'?
i.e, they actually worked for a living and put things together - signed paychecks....
How many 'government leaders' ran as much as a lemonade stand?
I suspect a small percentage
Yup, far better than VP.
The axe is necessary. The scalpel will miss part of the cancer only to grow back again. Some requirements can be folded in under existing departments. Regardless, Newt will address this concern.
the only place McCain needs to be put - is out to pasture.
His time is over.
Dig up blood and guts Curtis LeMay for Secretary of War.
That would work. My daughter works for a water and soil reclamation company and agrees we need the EPA but at the local level since DC is destroying business due to over regulation.
These are not single threaded tasks. Trump will have dozens of his initiatives on-going at the same time.
