I would have more respect for him if he openly left the Republican party and tried to run on his own, definitely more than for the underhanded way he’s trying to promote himself.

I found something interesting:
After the primaries, thegreenpapers.com showed Trump with 1,441 hard delegates and Cruz with 551 hard delegates.
When the delegate votes were cast at the convention, Trump got 1,725 delegate votes and Cruz got 484.
It looks like some delegates 'voted their consciences' against Cruz by about 67 votes. Some of that may have had to do with the Alaska delegation screw-up in their paperwork.
