I definitely saw a teleprompter but I never could see him look at it. It may have have streamed a basic outline of points in case he got lost, but I doubt he read it verbatim. The speech was too long and repetitive on law and order and security, but he finally salvaged it talking about restoring jobs and manufacturing and killing obamacare. He touched on most Republican issues except abortions.

I heard one of the news anchors say there was a “Jumbotron” type of screen with the speech on it, directly in front of Trump. That’s why he could look straight ahead/out over the crowd and read it.

They had some problems with the system the night before and all the screens
in the arena went dark. But they worked for this preformance it seems.

A year can make a big difference can't it? I felt the same as you then, and wondered if I'd sit the election out. But thankfully, the Lord knocked those cobwebs from my brain.
