Ted Cruz Is Readying for 2020
The Atlantic ^ | Jul 6, 2016 | Nora Kelly

Ted Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign ended just two months ago. But his campaign for next cycle is already getting started.

According to a report Wednesday in National Review, the Texas senator is making big changes inside and outside of his Senate office to ready his political operation for a 2020 run. Cruz has been “conspicuously silent” recently, the report notes, but behind the scenes has “supervis[ed] the vast expansion of his electoral enterprise, integrating the operations of his campaign team,” and has instituted staffing changes to reflect his long-term goals.

Among them is Cruz’s decision to bring on a longtime Republican campaign operative—with no Hill-office experience—as his Senate chief of staff. His current chief is departing to work as a senior adviser to two new Cruz-aligned nonprofit groups

Cruz’s performance last night was all about 2020. What a turn off.

There are certain people I will automatically turn off when they appear on TV. Cruz is now one of them. I used to think maybe he was OK. But as of now, I can’t stand the guy, at least as far as his political aspirations or public persona goes. When he talks, his words sound tinny and hollow to me - nothing solid, no ring of authenticity. Last night was no exception.

I just read a short biography on Benedict Arnold. What came through was a fatal flaw that Arnold’s personal ambition was more important than the lofty goals he was supposed to be fighting for. That’s Ted Cruz. Cruz supposedly stands for constitutional freedom but he’s shown me he puts his own political ambition and future first. In that sense, Ted Cruz is a Benedict Arnold as far as I’m concerned.

Someone said Cruz thinks he’s Reagan in 1976. Apparently his dad and apparently Cruz himself, think that Cruz has some sort of Divine Right to become President. I think they’re both nut jobs.

And if you want, I’ll tell you what I REALLY think about Cruz.

:)

Ted’s the reincarnation of Harold Stassen.

I don’t consider “delusional” a quality sought in a president.

Maybe Hugh can put in a good word for Ted for a faculty position at the law school where he taught, or write a recommendation for a job at one of those mega-firms. Ted's political career is toast after last night's exercise in megalomania. I don't think he survives the Senate primary in Texas next time around, even if Trump loses. And if Trump wins, you can guarantee that Ted will have a well-financed and attractive primary opponent. In the spirit of disclosure, I was a Cruz supporter. Emphasis on "was." I still have major doubts about Trump (see his latest comments on NATO), but it's no contest in choosing between The Donald and Hillary. Voting my conscience, I can easily choose Trump, while sore losers like Cruz and Kasich try to claim the high ground--and do everything they can to promote a GOP defeat.

“Everyone except his most die-hard supporters are disgusted by how petty and vindictive Cruz turned out to be, including many people who didn’t even support Trump in the primaries.”

It is quite literally only the cultists who support him now. Ones who are so lost that they see a messianic figure in this weird misfit of demonstrated instability and sealed records. They are bizarre people, whose existence is rooted in the denial of reality and the embrace of magical thinking.

That is pathological.....IF Hillary wins the judges she will appoint will make it impossible for a republican or conservative to ever win anything again

That sad thing is that even Beck and Levin are still supporting Cruz. I thought Levin was over him until I heard him on the radio Tuesday. I had to turn him off with his ranting this whole vote your conscience thing.

Clearly, this isn't 1976, and Cruz isn't even in the same universe as Ronaldus Magnus.

Cruz lost to Trump by more than 600 delegates. After Wisconsin, it wasn't even close. He tried a series of increasingly desperate stunts to regain momentum and all of them failed. By comparison, Reagan fought a brutal primary battle against Jerry Ford right down to the wire and lost on the convention floor by less than 120 votes.

If anyone had a right to be angry and disappointed, it was Ronald Reagan. But he was magnanimous in defeat and made the most of his speaking opportunities. Most of the delegates who left Kemper Arena in Kansas City after the convention knew they had nominated the wrong guy. And Reagan had not only cemented his place as the conservative leader of the GOP, he set the foundation for his triumph four years later. Cruz didn't come close to doing that last night. He's obviously positioning himself for 2020, but destroyed himself in the process. Senator Cruz staged the political equivalent of dousing himself with gasoline and throwing himself in a blast furnace. Ted isn't toast, he's more like a cinder.

He doesn’t care about the American people. He knows which red meat platitudes get conservative people riled up and cheering, and he uses people’s Christianity to rope them in.

He should be primaried. He lies as OFTEN as Hillary Clinton (as yet not about as serious of subjects), cheats as often as Bill. He should be done.

How can a person of Canadian birth run for POTUS?

Only by following obama, and while also loudly carrying a Bible with one hand and proudly waving the "True Conservative" banner with the other.

That will put a lock on those two core groups and they'll follow you anywhere and fight all of your fights for you.

It might have worked, too, if not for that dastardly Trump showing up when he did.

Yet another parallel, of the countless parallels of Ted Cruz with The Won: Ted’s in constant campaign mode.
And another: he’s completely clueless.
And another: he’s a narcissistic egomaniac who thinks nothing of his country.
We could do this all day ....

this guy never had the slightest chance of appealing to the broader electorate, delusions of grandeur to say the least; now he will never win his own party under any circumstance
