Donald Trump really, really wants to win California
LA Times ^ | July 20, 2016 | Melanie Mason

"Every time he meets with me, he asks me...'Can I win California?'" said McCarthy, a Republican from Bakersfield, at an event hosted by Politico's Playbook.

McCarthy said he replies: "Well, I don't think so. It's pretty difficult."

That's an understatement. California is one of the deepest blue states in the country. It hasn't backed a Republican for the White House since George H.W. Bush won in 1988.

The Trump team insists they'll play well in Democratic-friendly terrain like Connecticut, Oregon and New Jersey, and that Trump will campaign in blue states.

It’s going to be hard to win against the vote cheating. But Trump what cave on that the way McCain and Romney did.

The Demoncrat party has betrayed working class Americans, most of whom are Democrats, and Trump has a good chance to attract a lot of those votes, if he can get through to them past the union leaders and the media.

not that I understand it (perhaps someone can explain WTF is going on) but there is a big Second Amendment issue on the California ballot... perhaps Mr. Trump can combine forces with some active 2nd Amendment group in getting out the vote there?

I’m betting he will not spend time in CA.

What are you betting on this?

No he won’t.
Most likely he will loose by at least 10pts.

Most rank-and-file union folks have tuned out the leadership of the unions.

It all depends on how many illegals will be snookered into voting for Hellary multiple times.

I am glad to see that Trump is going to fight in each and every state and is not conceding any. I also think that CA is winnable for Trump.

California is the most expensive media market in the country. He'd spend millions on a state he has very little chance of winning anyway.

If the people of Calif don’t know by now they’ve make a mistake with liberalism, nothing short of going the way of Venezuela will turn them around.

one of the problems we have in the republican party is writing off states to campaign in. one of the reason California is so liberal is that rather then fighting the democrats in these states the national party chooses to ignore it in the presidential politics. that might be smart short term for that presidential race long term it just erodes away at there party structure with in California...even if this state has no chance at voting in a republican this year it helps long term so that maybe in 8 to 12 years it will vote republican.

“I fully expect to see several million voting who otherwise would not have”

I think every vote is important, even in CA or NY. Trump will win, but the margins are even more important. Big difference between winning 270 with 51% of the vote and winning 270+ with 55%. Every % more gives him more of a mandate to govern.

..people outside the state simply do not understand. No Republican will win CA ever again IMO.

McCain and Romney lost by over 20 points. If DJT gets it under double digits, it will be a miracle...

A win for Trump in CA does not require him wining the state.

If he can campaign enough in CA to get within 10 points and make Hillary spend time there, that’s enough.

That level of effort will likely help CA GOP in a few close state-level races and help CA GOP in House races. That will buy him some great goodwill with regard to his legislative agenda.

I am glad that he doesn’t immediately write off anything.

I really, really want Trump to win in California.

My instinct says demographics have gone too far, but I can hope.

It gets so irritating listening to these guys on FR constantly carp about NOT trying to go for a blue state!

And their incessant bitching about “dead voters” as a reason to not even bother!

Like where the hell are you supposed to take it to these people?

Leave up to some of these jokers, and Trump will be spending money in Alabama, Mississippi, Indiana, and S. Carolina because every other damn state is some elaborately laid “trap”.

“I agree, same for New York”

How about Michigan?
Wisconsin?
Iowa?
Ohio?
Pennsylvania?
New Jersey?

What other state should be ceded to these people right off the damn bat, leaving THEM free to spend money in red states?

Like what type of retarded strategy is this? Make it easier for them so you can make it harder on yourself?

“What are you betting on this?”

Because they rather just give Democrats states...you know so that they wont take the savings from that and plow it into red ones.

Because they totally wont do that at all!
