"Ultimately, they're just breasts right?" she said. "I mean, I love them, they're mine, they're beautiful, but in the grand scheme of things, I would rather be alive and I would rather grow old with my husband [Kurt Iswarienko]."

Any woman diagnosed with breast cancer should, IMO, have both removed. My mother did not, and the second time around killed her.

When it came to be my wife's turn I told her the same thing.."I didn't marry you for your tits get rid of both.". She did, came through with flying colors, and didn't even need to do chemo. That was ten years ago, and she is still "free and clear". She had lost her own mother to B.C., so had been religious about mammograms, hence caught it very early.

When my sister-in-law had it, I tried to convince her to have the double, but her doctor convinced her to do the single. So far, so good. I hope it stays that way.

Nowadays I think they do too many lumpectomies rather than mastectomies. It is awfully hard to get good margins with lumpectomies.

My wife had a single mastectomy in 1996. She did okay until she developed cancer in the other in 2009 and had another mastectomy. Now she is battling non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Still, she has done well for 20 years.

Mmm you should study breast cancer before making a statement like that. There are different types of breast cancer and breast removal should be decided by your oncologist. It is not always necessary. Depends on the type of cancer, the stage of the cancer, etc.
Yes, I had breast cancer and no I didn’t have a mastectomy let alone a double mastectomy. I was told it wasn’t needed and so far they were right.
