CLEVELAND (AP) -- Sen. Ted Cruz's Texas-size political ambitions will be on full display Wednesday as the primary runner-up delivers a prime-time convention speech, but holds off on a full-throated endorsement of Republican nominee Donald Trump.
The conservative senator repeatedly clashed with Trump during a bitter primary fight, with the New York businessman mocking the lawmaker as "Lyin' Ted." With an eye toward 2020, Cruz's team drafted a convention speech focusing on adherence to the Constitution, a calling card for conservatives and a perceived contrast with Trump.
Cruz has not endorsed Trump despite pleas for party unity from the campaign and party officials. Nor is he expected to in his speech, which was carefully screened by Trump campaign officials, the senator's aides said.

A man without a shred of honor.
That is well said.
Hes proven one thing for sure. Hes more concerned about 2020 than this year
Which shows that he desires a Trump defeat in 2016
If Trump loses, I will never vote GOP again.
My cow, that post was stupider than the first one. So Trump has spent his entire life accomplishing nothing apart from not being Hillary, and that’s what got him the nomination.
SMH.
They better have a dog listen to it as well.
Big mistake from Trump to let that SOB anywhere near the convention. He’ll use whatever time he gets to say he’ll always “fight for conservatism” and won’t mention Trump’s name.
They will never surrender as they believe they are on a mission from God.
And most are ashamed to admit that's their true motivation...they believe God has chosen Cruz to lead this nation. That he is the only one worthy...with singular fidelity to the Constitution and the Bible.
How this came about is baffling to me other than the Passion Play Cruz has been putting on.
It's like these folks don't care if the main character is really an agnostic actor with a whiskey and whore habit.
We are all breathless waiting to see if Cruz can rise above himself and his self-centered ambitions. He must talk about a vision, a vision of America with Trump at the helm.
If Ted Cruz can’t do that tonight, Cruz will always be defined by his self-centered, closed-minded self.
Ted Cruz will end-up being just another politician who stays in Texas.
After 8 years of a wonderful Trump Presidency we will need Cruz to continue to Make America Great
He is not eligible to be President and his globalist views should ensure that unless he runs as a Democrat, he should NEVER consider it. His lies, Coker, TPA, H1B views are not conservative nor Christian.
That is a very good post. A safe prediction is that if Cruz fails to endorse tonight, his supporters will say very little. They’ll be headed for the tall grass.
Yeah I don’t get it considering the behaviour and intransigence of his supporters on the floor throughout this week. They are a reflection of his mentality and direction. I do expect a weak nominal acknowledgment of the ticket because anything less would forever (if it hasn’t already) cause him to be a byword in the mouth of people he would presume to get support, for all time.
So quick? We have been waiting and waiting for the pledge to be honored...
Cruz supporters stated that Cruz said he would endorse the nominee, and since Trump was not yet the nominee, but merely the “presumptive” nominee, we should not be critical or impugn Cruz.
Trump is no longer the “presumptive” nominee, the distinction that was continually presented by Cruz supporters...He is THE NOMINEE, and Trump graciously gave Cruz a speaking slot during prime time.
Sooo just when is he going to honor his pledge?
C’mon Senator Cruz MAN UP and get on the Trump Train!
That is a very good post. A safe prediction is that if Cruz fails to endorse tonight, his supporters will say very little. Theyll be headed for the tall grass.
I don’t think it matters. Whatever Cruz says tonight his apologists here will call it an endorsement. That cake is already baked.
“The only way he could manage it would be something like ‘Yes, I said Trump is a pathological liar, and he is. However, Hillary is an even *worse* pathological liar. Vote Trump!”
No, Cruz should not say anything like that. He should say that it was a rough primary, that harsh criticisms were traded back and forth, that he vowed to fight to the bitter end.
Then he should say yesterday’s vote of 1725 delegates for Donald j Trump marks that bitter end, the official end of the nomination contest. He should say that Trump won a resounding victory yesterday and is now the undisputed nominee of our party. That we should now all put aside any bitterness from the primary contest and do everything in our power to support our nominee in his glorious fight against the evil beast to win the White House.
As will I.
I look forward to Cruz adding many trade deals when he is President.
Thank you. Yours too! And we wait patiently for a response from Cruz supporters and an official endorsement from Cruz.
I also pointed out in another post on that thread that Cruz marketed himself in 2016 as the candidate of God, a man who sought God’s will, etc....
Well, the Bible is chocked full of verses about honoring your word...How does this square with square with Cruz and his supporters?
