Bad optics I must say. Any decent tourist guide will tell you to never to go to a chain restaurant in Manhattan! Hopefully they weren't also wearing those hideous "I (heart) NY" shirts or buying ticket to the Statue of Liberty from some shady street vendors.
Besides, any tourist knows that no visit to Manhattan is complete without having a genuine New York slice!.

two things. I can’t stand billed in water hot dogs. That was a NY experience I’d sooner forget.
Went to stage door deli. They won’t sell half a sandwich. Took a doggie bag with half a brisket. Homeless guy: “Can i have 5 bucks for food?” Me: No, but you can have this sandwich.” What is it?” Brisket.” “HG: Sorry, I’m a vegetarian.”
