“My pet peeve is morons who use the term “automatic” when clearly the firearm in question (I fixed it) is a semi-automatic.”

The problem being that you are wrong:

“Automatic” can refer to a firearm that automatically chambers a round after pressing the trigger to fire a round (a semi-automatic) or one that chambers and fires multiple rounds with while continuously pressing the trigger (fully automatic).

Note that the .45 Automatic Colt Pistol round, usually referred to as .45ACP, was developed years before there was a fully automatic firearm in which to use it. Same goes for the other ACP rounds. Was there ever a fully automatic firearm using the .25 Automatic Colt Pistol round?

I am well aware of the nomenclature, in fact I have Colt shop manuals since I have done some action work on my Colt 1911.

Uh, yeah, I know a little something about semi-automatic pistols. In addition to my Colt semi-automatic 1911, perhaps you have heard of Sig Sauer and Heckler & Koch.

Uh, yeah. I know about 1911s. This Valor was a custom order and bob-tailed for me personally by Dan Wesson. It is resting on a few hundred rounds of reloaded .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) ammo.

As a Certified NRA Instructor, people say I'm a decent shot too.

Despite all this, you miss the point of the news reporting "automatic" weapons when clearly the ones used in the crime were not automatic weapons as used in normal daily vernacular.
