“Its not really a risk since you dont actually have an option. We dont get to pick. We just get to watch. And usually we watch a bad situation get worse.”
Not always, my FRiend. It has gotten better in Egypt, both for the Egyptians themselves (stability, more security, return of tourism), and for the Middle East in general. If this Coup succeeds, things will get much better in Turkey, just like the last time the Turkish military had to step in to reinstate a more secular society. The Turkish military are the defenders against radical Muzzies taking over their country.
So everyone keeps promising. But my memory is long enough to remember secular bad men in the mid east. It’s just not a place that’s fond of growing good guys. We’ll see. It’ll be nice to be wrong but until the new government actually DOES something I will assume they’re like 99% of the other governments that have been in the mid east in my life time. Because I always play the odds.
