The military in Turkey, like the military in Egypt, has always been the enforcer of the more secular aspects of the nation, and after the current Turkish regime had gone a little off the rails, the military, organized mostly under the revolt of the colonels, is throwing out the deadwood.

This is not a new phenomenon for Turkey.
