The setup for a coup was certainly in place. Maybe Erdogan’s recent peace overtures to its neighbors were a too-little, too-late attempt to quell the rebellion.

The Turkisk Constitution has clause that allows the military to overthrow the government if it it going back toward a Caliphate, or so I have been told.
