Summary call-in from Zeke Miller (TimeMag) on CSPAN3:
Rinse Preibus/RNC used a “printer issue” as a ruse while he and others (anti-trumpets) hashed out and tried to reach some kind of compromise this morning. No agreements were reached, thus this is why the Rules Committee came back from their long lunch break and promptly began hashing out each and every rule, point by point. (the boring Robert’s Rules discussion we’ve been watching here).
Key players in the negotiations/”printer error” 4-hour talks this morning:
Preibus
Cuccinelli (sp?)
Morton Blackwell
Kendal Unruh
Mike Lee (Zeke Miller didn’t mention him specifically, but I presume he was there).
(I missed some other names; Zeke was talking fast)
The proposed provisions by anti-trumpers during this 4-hour meeting would have weakened the RNC. The talks broke down when they couldn’t reach agreement.
Implications: Now the anti-trump delegates won’t be able to ?? on the floor of the convention and Trump’s nomination would be 100% secure.
Back in the Rules Committee meeting, Rule 12 (”Ben Ginsberg’s Rule”) has been the only key vote so far taken today and it failed miserably. (end of Zeke’s summary)
(Incidentally, callers to CSPAN right now seem to be pro-Trump 2 to 1 and are against this anti-Trump movement to dump Trump.)
Thank you for that update.
Thanks for the update, Nita.
