Social media erupted in fury after the Canadian quartet The Tenors changed the words to O Canada to make a political statement during the opening of Major League Baseballs All-Star Game in San Diego Tuesday night.
Holding up a sign saying All Lives Matter, the group sang: We are brothers, we are sisters, All lives matter to the brave, when they should have been singing: With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free.
The words United We Stand were written on the back of the sign.
Although there was some applause during their performance, reaction afterwards was overwhelmingly negative, judging by comments posted on Twitter.
How on earth did they think this was a good idea, asked one tweet.

Canadians may be super liberal but they are super-duper nationalistic!
This is a line you can’t cross up there.
If this had been a hockey game they would have been pucked to death.
Miserable, self-important attention whores...
How can any sane person think that "black lives matters" is a good idea? (I think I answered my own qwuestion)
Hhmmm, maybe not bad in premise, but never mess with a national anthem.
What have we come to that the slogan, “all lives matter”, provokes outrage?
How on earth did they think this was a good idea
They’re Liberals
Canada sucks . They will be out 51st statw with 2 senators.
Thanks.
Why were they singing O Canada at the All Star game? I thought the Expos were gone. Am I wrong?
Wonder if they didn’t get booed for their sign not saying BLM.
All Lives Matter might’ve upset a few.
What a bunch of idiots. BTW Canadians have lots of conservatives too.
“Miserable, self-important attention whores.”
Or fags.
There were at least 5 Toronto blue jays at the game.
Just leave politics out of sports, period. People are drawn to sports mostly as a diversion from other more pressing issues. Even though I agree with the “All Lives Matter” sentiment, get off your soapbox.
It’ll be a cold day in Miami before that happens. Trudeau is still better than Obama, and Harper was better than anyone since Reagan.

IIRC, Toronto has had a team the first part of each of the last several years.
Yep. I give them one year under Trump to straighten up and fly right.
If they had simply called the movement “black lives matter too” the intent would have been clearer...
