CLEVELAND — Ted Cruz is making an extra trip to Cleveland to address a closed-door meeting of influential conservative leaders this Friday ahead of the Republican National Convention, according to four people familiar with his plans.
Cruz will speak to a gathering of the Council for National Policy, a secretive group of conservative activists, many of whom backed the Texas senator in his failed presidential bid earlier this year.
The Council for National Policy is a nonprofit but some of its members, including CNP President Tony Perkins, who also serves as head of the Family Research Council, are part of a subgroup that had voted to endorse Cruz in hopes of uniting the conservative movement behind a single candidate in 2016, rather than splintering as it had in 2008 and 2012.

Well, it’s obvious St Ted has not been dieting since ‘suspending’ his run.
I really don’t think Cruz actually knows what Cruz wants...He seems blinded by his hatred for Trump and Trump alone...
I really think he’s psychotic....
The “NY Liberal” took Cruz’s lunch money and Evangelical supporters across the South. And Cruz has been tantruming for months about it.
Oooh...it just gets better....St Ted spends cozy time with 0bie, Mooch, Eddie Bernice AND SanFranNan.

Can anybody think of any logical reason why Cruz, who still has a future, would not endorse Trump?

He should have already endorsed him, along with the rest of the also rans.
Cruz may have a future as a Senator from Texas, but not as President. Cubanadians are not eligible.

I have no use for Ted Cruz, but, I did read the article.
Apparently, he may be looking toward 2020 and wants to line up support that he has already garnered from these evengelical leaders.
That was the take away line from reading the story.
This dreaded climber will be baaaack, I’m afraid, which makes it vital that Trump’s cabinet shines. Someone needs to bury Credo Cruz’ political ambitions permanently.
He would serve well as a street preacher.
Does Mr. Cruz realize he is being used by people who hated his guts several months ago i.e, the Democrats & Republicans?
Properly, the term is "could", not "should". Not so long ago, the endorsement of the 2nd place finisher was reserved until his convention speech -- so as to gain maximum impact.
He’s one of them, always has been.
