A new video released by the U.S. Navy shows the moment an E-2C Hawkeye aircraft nearly plunged into the water from the deck of the USS Eisenhower after an arresting cable snapped during a landing on March 18, 2016.

You are quite correct. Hit the deck, full power.
Doing that gave the airplane a chance, ground effect with the sea surface gave it another. The pilot stayed very cool, flew his aircraft without stalling it, and did not screw this up. BZ!
Does anyone know what the wind-down-the-angle was for this approach?
Got another interesting tid-bit for you to research...why are carrier islands always on the starboard side?
Actually, there were two that had them to port...they were involved in a rather infamous carrier action. Can you name them?
Carryover from clockwise propeller torque favoring leftward bias so keep conning tower away from pilots natural inclination to go left
Two starboard conning tower fitted flat tops were Japs thought to deliver a more expedient carrier group two way coming and going flight tack but proved hard to work to effect especially in combat when simply getting guys airborne or refueled or deck cleared made orderly landing and take off patterns of less import
Yup.
The Japs were the *Akagi* and the *Hiryu* both at the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Aside from propeller rotation, pilot inclination to “go left” stemmed from right-handed stick control. In emergency situations they would instinctivly “throw” the stick left rather than “pull” it to the right. (at least that’s how an old WWII/KW pilot explained it to me)
