Violence in Chicago is reaching epidemic proportions. In the first five months of 2016, someone was shot every 2¹/₂ hours and someone murdered every 14 hours, for a total of nearly 1,400 nonfatal shooting victims and 240 fatalities.
Over Memorial Day weekend, 69 people were shot, nearly one per hour, dwarfing the previous years tally of 53 shootings over the same period. The violence is spilling over from the citys gang-infested South and West sides into the downtown business district; even Lake Shore Drive has seen drive-by shootings and robberies.
The growing mayhem is the result of Chicago police officers withdrawal from proactive enforcement, making the city a dramatic example of what I have called the Ferguson effect.
Since the fatal shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., in August 2014, the conceit that American policing is lethally racist has dominated the national airwaves and political discourse, from the White House on down.

In response to this feeling, cops in minority neighborhoods in Chicago and other cities around the country are backing off pedestrian stops and public-order policing and criminals are flourishing in the resulting vacuum

I have thought something similar; but, in terms of Left and Right. We are at a point in this country where we simply have strayed so far from any commonality with one another, that perhaps we should consider a break. Blue policies vs. Red policies -- that way, everyone can live according to their liking of how things should be run in any particular state.
As I said, she came home from college with that left-wing view that the suburbs were evil and enlightened folks all lived in cities. She has yet to see the light; but, lately I have been quite worried about her and where she lives.
Understanding the folly of that is above their pay grade, I'm afraid.
Still...why does that sound like “AIDS is caused by a lack of funding?”
Parasites require a host. Who they gonna be muggin, who gonna send the checks?
I don’t know what the neighborhood is called; but, it is reasonably close to Evanston.
Very well said.
As things get worse, Democrats will insist more that we need gun control. Be afraid, they just might get it.
Evanston is super-nice. Rogers Park, maybe? Good area, and in its second stage of gentrificaton. Nice place to own property. That being said, still not a good place to be taking solitary walks at 1am, unless you have a grumpy dog or your gun. Be aware of property theft . . . don’t leave your iPhone sitting on the carseat, and a burglar alarm for the home is a plus.
I am currently reading The War on Cops by Heather MacDonald (very scary) and the Chairman’s Report from the Select Committee on Benghazi (very sickening).
Smart man.
Let the south side stew in their own problems. Stick to patrolling the neighborhoods where you are welcomed and crime is minimal. Screw those other neighborhoods.
As it was said on FR before: I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
There is no Whitey around to blame, so the media is silent.
Proof that the left hates Blacks is the fact that they don’t try to stop Blacks from killing Blacks.
Last night I was watching the St. Paul demonstration on I-94 via youtube live feed. At some point I was thinking; they come to a rally point, taunt the police, do some twirking, and then go back to their hood and shoot each other, which, of course, the media never reports.
Here’s something to offset the ‘scary’ and the sickening - a ray of hope:
How Not To Fix Inner-City Gun Violence:

If Chicago had a Mayor worth his salt he would tell the ACLU to stuff their forms where the sun don't shine...
Unfortunately, criminals have been taking the red line over the last few years, and there are incidents in the Loop, Neat North, and Wrigleyville that don’t really get reported.
Liberals and conservatives cannot co-exist happily. If we split, the liberals would have most of the violent criminals. I see it more of a culture thing, with the popular black culture being a thug culture. However, many younger whites are part of it.
