They had him cornered. He wasn’t going anywhere. And judging by the fact that he didn’t shoot the robot, he may very well have been out of ammunition.

Thanks. Good point. It will be interesting to see down the road, when they do a report on this incident, if they mention this.

There is no “cornered” in a parking garage where a perp who has already shot a dozen police officers can fire a gun at random in any direction and hit innocent bystanders blocks away.

An apt comparison IMO is “The Texas Tower Sniper” in Austin back in ‘66. He was rightly killed, a robot would have been an acceptable way to kill him.

Now if we find out that this man no longer was a threat to civilians and the police could be expected to know that and could wait him out without risk... Well, tThat’s a big assumption at this point- plus his claim to be able to set off bombs.

http://murderpedia.org/male.W/w/whitman-charles.htm
“...Local gun-owning citizens materialized and started shooting at the tower. A cop angrily demanded of one such public-spirited citizen what the hell he thought he was doing. The man, reportedly dressed in battle fatigues and with an M-14 rifle set up on a tripod, replied, “Just helping out.””
Ah, different times.
