Dallas police used bomb robot to kill shooting suspect
By James Rogers Published July 08, 2016 FoxNews.com
Dallas police used an explosive device attached to a robot to kill a suspect in the coordinated sniper attack that killed five officers Thursday, in what experts say is a first for law enforcement.
In a press conference Police Chief David Brown explained that the robot was deployed on the second floor of El Centro College in downtown Dallas following a standoff early Friday.
We cornered one suspect and we tried to negotiate for several hours - negotiations broke down, we had an exchange of gunfire with the suspect, he said. We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension for it to detonate where the suspect was, he said.
Brown explained that other options would have exposed the police officers to great danger.
The police chief confirmed that the suspect was killed by the bombs detonation, noting that reports the suspect killed himself were inaccurate.

There were no hostages. This wasn't a raid where SWAT went in and the guy was holding a gun.
The cops basically did a summary execution. Forget that he deserved to die, this is some unprecedented police power in the U.S., and I frankly do not like it.
I have one. you sure keep the spirit of an angry New Yorker alive enjoy you week end get back on your Meds and call you Doctor
I'm afraid you're too stupid to understand any other differences between these situations so I won't even bother. Dumbass!
Did he have bombs placed and was stating he would detonate them? I’m asking since I’m trying to catch up here, so any info is helpful, thanks.
I thought it was a bim.
Star Wars the Empire Strikes Back. IG 88 was battle droid bounty hunter among a group of bounty hunters Darth Vader employs to find the Millennium Falcon.
Dang. Been too long. Thanks.
I know. 1980 was um 36 years ago now.
‘Mechanical ambush’, was the local term back when...
Negotiations failed. He was cornered, still armed, and was shooting at them. They had no choice.
You think I’m angry?
Actually I am not. Not at you anyway. I guess I came off that way, sorry.
I take back that ‘chump’ comment as well.
The SPLC and ACLU were not amused. Nor the SPCA.
Of course it is...barricaded suspects who have killed cops.
You and I know the differences in circumstances, but the end result is the same....
Cops used lethal means to KILL 'cop killers' who had no possibility of escape. Of course, they only deployed a 12 gauge on a robot at Ruby Ridge, along with a Horiuchi MK1. And no robots at all at Waco, just lethal, flammable CS gas from a tank.
I would think a "bomb" used to denotate other explosives might not be very powerful.
Maybe they should have just thrown acid on the guy. Or released a group of hungry tigers on him. The future possibilities are almost endless.
I recall years ago that an armed criminal holed up in a dry cleaning business. My approach at the time was to spare the cops the hazard of rushing the place and just push it down with a bulldozer. A couple hundred grand would have rebuilt the business and saved the taxpayer money.
Is there some reason why the robot could not be armed with a taser-like device? That could be fun.
Er, what cops did Randy Weaver and David Koresh, et al kill?

They run out of flash-bangs? Their armored personal carrier on the fritz? Drought and the water cannon filling balloons?
There was ample ability and means to use something OTHER than a F* BOMB.
Sorry, this is NOT how our Republic should be....but, I guess, we are FAR from being a Republic these days. Just sad to see another area where FR is ‘giddy-up, cowboy’ vs. fair trial THEN execution.
“....this is some unprecedented police power in the U.S., and I frankly do not like it.”
Yep, if Hillary wins, and declares all guns must be turned in, the people who refuse to do such and hole up in their homes can now expect a visit from the ‘new’ law enforcement which is a cop, judge, jury, and executioner all rolled into one. If they get too busy, and in order for all cops to make it safely home at night, and to avoid interrupting commerce at nearby businesses, they just use the expedited system by skipping the human element and just drone those who fail to obey.
Good.
I hope it hurt like hell and I hope he saw it coming. I hope he fired repeatedly and cried like a cowardly, hell-bound baby when the bullets ricocheted off of of R2D2 and he knew he was going to die in a painful way.
Really....REALLY????
BOTH standoffs resulted from cops getting shot and killed. Or did you not know that?
Of course there were differences, but the bottom line is, in all three incidents, cops executing cop killers when there were viable alternatives.
The nearly universal mindset among LEOs that treats cop killers different from the guy that rapes and murders your little sister is partly to blame for the militarization of civil law enforcement.
Peace officers no longer exist, and we should all lament their demise.
