Given that the officers were working a protest rally, would they not have been wearing body armor? If so, would that mean the snipers had armor-piercing rounds?

Those vest only stop pistol rounds - not rifle.

Prayers up for the officers and their families. What has happened to our country?

No not necessarily. Cops don’t expect to be shot with rifles. The body armor they wear often is not rated for rifle cartridges.

One would think they would be wearing some sort of protective gear. Doubtful it would be riot gear since this was a peaceful rally.

I think these evil humans used this occasion as a cover.

Most were shot in the back....yes, bullets went through vests
