Sen. Ted Cruz, Donald Trump's former chief rival for the GOP nomination, will speak at the Republican National Convention later this month, the Texas senator told reporters after the two met Thursday in Washington.
Cruz told reporters Thursday that the real estate mogul offered his former primary rival a speaking slot during the meeting and Cruz accepted. He added that he and Trump did not discuss an endorsement.

I still think this is funny. Cruz is backing Trump. He isn’t part of the No Trump movement. If anything, Cruz’s supporters are loyal, that’s why they stuck with him. They are half of us on FR.
Cruz will give the anti-establishment of a lifetime and in that speech throw all of his support behind Trump, the goal being the destruction of the GOPe. Now some of you are saying, Cruz should have already thrown his weight behind Trump, others are saying that Lyin Ted will never again get their vote. All fine and good.
There is one thing we never took into consideration. In 2018 does anyone think the GOPe will back Cruz in his reelection bid? Not in a million years will they back him. And more importantly, Cruz knows that, which is why his speech is going to set the world on fire.
One other thing to take into consideration. Conservatives are voting for Trump. If we come out and just pick off a couple of points, we will beat Clinton. And FLorida just brought part of the gay community over. In a place like NYC that is huge.
I think/hope it has dawned on Ted that we’re fighting a wicked witch and if he can’t say anything good about Donald at least he could refrain from saying anything bad and address the issues and the witch.
A Cruz vice-presidency would seal the deal for Trump once and for all.
“They are half of us on FR.”
Way less than half. The FR caucus proved that every day for months.
This could be a chance for Cruz to redeem himself, or to permanently bury himself, if he is not fully supporting Trump.
I hope he decides to support Trump and ask everyone else to do so. The main focus needs to be to support Trump and help him beat Hillary.
Lol
“Did I miss something? Is Cruz going to be the nominee after all? If so he could give himself a speaking slot. Otherwise that would be up to, for example, Donald Trump.”
Actually, if I understand the convention rules correctly, anyone who won the plurality of delegates in at least 8 states has the right to speak if he/she so chooses. That would include, for example, Ted Cruz.
I'll second that. our chances against Hillary are much better with Cruz and Trump singing from the same hymnal...
Opening day at 4 PM I hope
I’d tell the slimy CANADIAN lawyer to shove it.
Cruz will endorse Trump and praise him up and down. Why wouldn't he. If Trump expected him to go rogue he wouldn't have given him the slot.
The best voting record in the House or Senate and Freepers think he is the devil. They need to get a life.
And so Trump chose to be gracious about it and welcome Ted into the slot.
Most definitely.
Cruz won’t endorse until the rules committee shenanigans have been concluded
I’m glad to hear this. I have been pro-Trump all along, and hoping and praying for a Trump/Cruz ticket. While the more crass & ignorant Trump supporters among us may poopoo this idea, I admire both men for their love of Country, and continue to believe that they are adult enough to overcome differences if it means that the Republic benefits.
Well that sounds like the sensible thing at this point.
All the childish #Never[some GOP politician] needs to stop at this point and turn into a #NeverHillary.
Marco Rubio, the idiot should do the same.....otherwise he will lose his primary fight in Florida!!! Rubio, Cruz...get smart and with the program....fully endorse, support and vote for Doanld j. Trump!!! Do it today....fools!!! GO DONALD J. TRUMP!!!!
He’ll probably use the opportunity to officially endorse Hillary.
That’s about how I read it.
