That proposal, a keystone of her plan announced Wednesday to reduce student debt and the burden of student loans, is also a victory for her primary rival Bernie Sanders, who campaigned on a platform to make tuition free at public colleges and universities. Indeed, the proposal drew praise from Sanders, who wrote on Twitter that he applauded Clinton's "very bold initiative for the financing of higher education."
Clinton's plan to eliminate tuition at in-state public institutions of higher education would begin immediately for families earning $85,000 or less, and would expand to families earning up to $125,000 over five years. In a release, the Clinton campaign claimed this would cover more than 80 percent of families.
The "debt-free college plan" would also impose a three-month moratorium on federal student loan payments via executive action, to allow borrowers to refinance their loans.

I don’t know all the particulars and the article only gave the income caps for “free” college.

Come on, it will only add 2 trillion a year to the debt. Everyone can go to college now. They will have transgrades, a F can be an A etc. /sarc off/
First of all, “free college education” will destroy the higher education system as we know it. There will always be the Harvards and Standfords, but all the lower tier private universities will be forced to shut down as kids will flock to public schools and take the subsidy. And as a result the public universities will drop even lower in quality in order to teach the most people at the lowest common denominator.
Second of all, if you think about where all this is headed why not just cut to the chase? Forget about school, forget about work, forget all your responsibilities as a person and as a citizen. If everyone is entitled to receive a minimum of goods and services regardless of how well they do their job or how much training and experience they accumulate or how much they know, then let’s just give everyone everything they want. Everyone gets free food, housing, health care, transportation, internet, cell phones, laptop computers, and some spending money. Why bother with this minimum wage/living wage campaign? just give it all away to everyone. (of course, I am being sarcastic, but it is not really that sarcastic since this is where it is heading).
You got it exactly right. I wrote nearly the same thing word for word before I read your post.
I'm not so sure about that. Remember, the laws of economic are ALWAYS at play. If you change some of the parameters, people will just behave differently to get the result they want.
I see it playing out like this...public universities will get a TON more students from among those who ordinarily wouldn't go to college. The smaller private universities will get a lot of kids that would have gone to public university but now have to go to a private one to get a valuable education. They will still be willing to take out large loans if the value of an actual "college education" will return larger future salaries. The elite private schools will remained unchanged.
public universities (the new "high school plus") - WIN
small private universities (the new "college")- WIN
elite private universities - no change
tax payers (the "suckers") - LOSE

So she lumps households with $40,000 annual income with those making $125,000? Madness.
I think you’re almost right.
Except I don’t think it will the “tax payers” that lose. Last I looked, DC is spending about 1.4x what it takes in. It’s not like they have to balance the budget to pay for new spending. They’ll just throw this extra spending on the debt.
The losers are the ones who will end up getting stuck with the debt we leave them. I predict it will be these folks who thought they got a “free” education.
amazing how this country goes from having a Free Soil Party (opposed to slavery) to a Free Stuff Party (opposed to paying for things).
Were about due for another war to get rid of slavery, but with half the nation enamored with a defeated rebel nation-state whose entire reason for existence was slavery, I’m not exactly thrilled about our chances.
